Every month, our ‘Meet the Team’ series takes you behind the scenes at Special Olympics Europe Eurasia (SOEE) to get to know one of our wonderful team members! This month, we’re chatting to Pamela Herrera, also known as Pam or Pame, SOEE’s Manager for Athlete Leadership, Young Athletes, the Motor Activity Training Program (MATP) and Family Engagement. “What I like most about my work with Special Olympics is seeing the profound impact it has on the athletes and their families,” Pamela says. “It's incredibly rewarding to witness the joy and sense of accomplishment that each event brings. I cherish the moments when I can interact directly with the athletes and their families, learning about their journeys and seeing the positive changes that Special Olympics inspire in their lives.” Based in Spain, Pamela balances her busy work life with quality time spent with her family as well as running and high-intensity training (HIT) which she finds incredibly energizing! She would advise anyone who is interested in stepping into a role like hers to be passionate about promoting inclusion for people with disabilities, gain direct experience of working/volunteering with people with disabilities, cultivate empathy and keep an open mind. Anyone who has worked with Pamela would certainly agree that she embodies this advice as a genuinely empathetic and open-minded colleague! #SpecialOlympics

Special Olympics is thrilled to showcase the Unified Football 7-a-side event in India, held in partnership with H&M Move India. This event brought together Special Olympics Bharat athletes and H&M Move India employees to emphasize the importance of physical activity for youth of all abilities. Both teams shared perspectives on inclusion, opportunities for engagement, and the need for inclusive development through sports and physical activity for all. This collaboration in the Asia Pacific region supports the Special Olympics Global Coalition for Inclusion, a multilateral platform funded by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and is dedicated to expanding inclusive programs for individuals with and without intellectual disabilities in schools, sports clubs, and community centers worldwide. In addition to the event, H&M Move is supporting SO Bharat across the next two years to create Unified Schools that focus on promoting social inclusion through shared sports and competition experiences, bolster engagement with students both with and without intellectual disabilities and facilitate government collaboration.
