In the video below, Bill explains how Greenstreets Environmental Resources Ltd has been helping clients in #EPR packaging reporting by aligning data and expertise 👉 https://lnkd.in/eHH5n5DT Extended Producer Responsibility #EPR is a policy instrument that places the responsibility for the management of #packaging and packaging waste, for example, on the producers, rather than solely on municipalities or consumers 📦 This can be complex for companies due to several factors, including regulations and requirements that can vary widely between countries and may change over time in response to evolving #sustainability concerns and the development of a #circulareconomy ♻

📢 Check out our latest blog on how Ecodesign credits as part of a broader approach that can drive companies to adopt environmentally friendly practices, particularly in product design and packaging! 📈 As part of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs, producers are now facing increased costs, transforming compliance fees into significant budgets and cost centres. ♻ In Canada, Québec stands out by offering an Ecodesign incentive program within its Packaging and Printed Paper (PPP) EPR scheme. This initiative rewards companies with ecodesign credits for redesigning their packaging towards environmental sustainability. 💡 These credits are a powerful motivator, encouraging producers to innovate by rethinking and redesigning their packaging materials! Here's how your business can start to prepare to align with the new rules: 🔍 Ban on Greenwashing - do not 📢 Make generic environmental claims on products without proof. Claim that a product has a neutral, reduced, or positive environmental impact without verification. Use sustainability labels not based on approved certification schemes or established by public authorities. 🔧 Promote Product Durability: Ensure awareness of the guarantee period for repairs. Products with a minimum two-year guarantee. Labels that indicate extended guarantee periods. 💡 Adapting early can boost your brand's credibility and consumer trust. ♻ A step closer towards a #circulareconomy - backed up by further upcoming regulations including the EU Green Claims Directive and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). #EPR #extendedproducerresponsibility #GreenClaims #Sustainability #ProductStewardship #EURegulation #EPRcompliance #Ecodesign #Marketing

⏳ Delays in the implementation of #EPR Schemes including Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (pEPR); Simpler Recycling in England; and Deposit Return Schemes (DRS) across the #UK have left local authorities unable to address suitable planning and budgeting required by the reforms as declared by the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC). ⚠ Meanwhile, companies that missed the EPR reporting deadline of 31st of May to submit their #packaging data might face legal actions. 📜 The list of organisations (‘producers’) who have already reported their data is available on the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs website. ♻ The reporting is crucial as it will be used to calculate fees paid by producers to cover waste management costs and therefore payments to local authorities and service providers involved in post-consumer stages of supply chains such as waste collection and #recycling. #wastemanagement #DRS #productstewardship #circulareconomy #EPR #sustainability https://lnkd.in/eujF7WC2

📢 Businesses will have to access current packaging strategies and understand new regulation requirements of the PPWR, including minimisation of resource consumption, reuse options and recyclability improvements. 📉 The PPWR sets ambitious #reduction targets aiming for a 5% reduction by 2030, which seems modest but is substantial given the increasing waste trends. An effective reduction is projected to be almost 40% by 2040. 🔁 #Reuse: packaging must be designed for multiple uses, with targets set for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (10% by 2030, 40% by 2040). Transport and e-commerce packaging will also have reuse targets, aiming for a 40% reuse rate by 2030. ♻ Packaging will be graded on #recyclability performance, with a minimum requirement of 70% recyclability to be placed on the market from 2030. By 2038, only packaging with recyclability rates of over 80% will be allowed (Grade A and B). 💡 Increased transparency, data reporting and management to follow new requirements will be essential to track compliance with new regulations. Various KPIs and design principles are related to weight, recyclability, exact composition, carbon footprint, and packaging emptiability. It's well worth watching the recorded webinar from the WPO World Packaging Organisation about the next steps of the PPWR: https://lnkd.in/d6RS6Ai4 #packaging #epr #extendedproducerresponsibility #sustainability #environmentalcompliance #ppwr #sustainablepackaging #greendeal
