About us

Galway Chamber is the premier business organisation in Galway City and its hinterland. We currently represent approximately 500+ companies. It is a privately constituted organisation that works for the interests of businesses, and for the economic development of the City and Region. Our Vision Statement: ‘Galway at the leading edge’ . The message from this vision statement is that Galway will strive to be the best at whatever it undertakes, to achieve excellence in everything, to be to the fore in new developments and to be the leading location in every endeavor it undertakes. Most of all this vision statement is an attitude and way of thinking. This vision is intended to be a motivator, a target to be achieved and a commitment to excellence. This vision can be applied to all aspects of life and business in Galway. Therefore our Mission is to: “Make Galway the leading location for business, investment and people” Our activities include influencing decisions and lobbying on behalf of businesses, providing opportunities for business networking, export documentation, trade information, business promotion & support and encouraging mutual business support between members. We also offer training and have conference and meeting rooms for hire. Through our membership of the Enterprise Europe Network we can provide our members with direct access to the European market and beyond. Whether your business is Retail, Manufacturing, IT, Services, Financial, R&D or other, the continued well-being of your business is inextricably linked to the continued well being of Galway. The full time staff and the many ‘voluntary’ people who comprise Galway Chamber work tirelessly to ensure that Galway will continue to be a vibrant ‘leading edge’ location for business, investment and people.

Galway Economic Monitor - 2024 Mid-Year edition published Highlights include: 5,200 new jobs in Industrial sector in Q1, 2024, amid a decline across private services and public services sectors New residential construction activity reaches new peak in Q2 Public Transport usage reached new peak Friday, 2 August 2024, Galway The Galway Chamber, in collaboration with Grant Thornton, is delighted to publish the 2024 Mid-Year edition of the Galway Economic Monitor. As we emerge from the local City and County Council elections, the Galway Chamber remains focused on the priorities and opportunities, identified in their ‘Call to Action’, to enable the expansion and support of thriving communities in the West. The Economic Monitor reports that the Industrial sector continues to drive employment growth, with 5,200 new jobs created in Q1, 2024, while employment declined quarter over quarter across both the private services sector and the public services sector. With regard to housing, new residential construction activity reached a new peak in Q2, in light of continued increases in house prices and residential rents. The region continues to attract greater visitor numbers, with the volume of air passengers through Shannon Airport hitting just over half a million in Q1. Speaking about the publication of this issue of the Galway Economic Monitor, Deirdre Mac Loughlin, Interim CEO of Galway Chamber, said “The Galway Economic Monitor is a unique evidence-based dashboard showcasing the economic performance of Galway.  Within 6 pages, key data relating to the Labour Market, Housing and Transport is presented in a readily accessible format that demonstrates the trends, highlights and areas where further attention is required. The Galway Economic Monitor is an enabling tool for business and decision makers concerned with public policy and economic performance in Galway.   In this issue we also shine a spotlight on the creative industries, where the percentage of people employed in this sector in Galway City is higher than the national average.” Aengus Burns, Advisory Partner in Grant Thornton said “we are delighted to produce the Galway Economic Monitor in collaboration with Galway Chamber. Comparison of economic indicators allows for analysis of trends and fact based discussion on the direction of growth in the Galway and West region, allowing key influencers to be better informed with up to date information.” To view the Galway Economic Monitor - 2024 Mid-year edition, click on the following link: https://lnkd.in/e3JGP7iX

Everything we do is in partnership and collaboration with others. We are delighted to introduce our partnership showcase where we thank partners with whom we work that help us achieve our collective goals. This week we highlight our partnership with the Galway Chamber and give sincere thanks to the team. Below are some of the projects we've worked on together: ▶ The 'Culture Meets Business' programme, a series of talks and networking events where cultural and business organisations had the opportunity to get to know each other. This has led to some fantastic partnerships. More to come. We were delighted that the ‘Culture Meets Business’ programme, in partnership with Galway Chamber, was shortlisted in the ‘Supporting Business’ category for the 2024 Chambers Ireland awards. ▶The Chamber is featured in our 'We are Galway, We are Culture' film. Watch it here: https://lnkd.in/eu_7g_-U ▶The establishment of the first award for culture and creativity in the Chambers Awards in Ireland. It's been fantastic to have 3 organisations recognised in such a prestigious away including Galway Community Circus, Baboró International Arts Festival for Children and Druid Theatre Company. Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/eJ9gxhza ▶Along with the Chamber, we are delighted to have achieved the inclusion of the impact of the cultural sector in the economic monitor compiled by Grant Thornton. ▶Galway’s first application to the EUI and subsequent Interreg project, further deepening EU relationships and partnerships. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eRfdZt-3 The Chamber has also supported us in the hosting of many events and projects including international delegations, such as embassy visits, EU partner visits, EU Japan Fest and many more. We in turn support the Chamber in many other ways, such as with their policy and strategy committee, their business events and their EU relationships. Sincere thanks to the team and the board for their collaboration, support and ongoing partnership. Business Leader / Experienced Public Affairs Leader / Board Director with strong experience in Governance, EDI & Strategy.

After having the pleasure of spending a little over 5 years in this role as CEO of Galway Chamber, I can confirm for whomever is successful in this process, that it will be one of, if not the most personally rewarding & engaging roles you will ever perform. The energy, the entrepreneurs & intrapreneurs, the stakeholders & partners on a regional & global basis, the people you will be dealing with, are in the main exceptional. There is huge ambition & hope for Galway as a global city driving the regional economy & opportunity. The CEO works closely with the team, the board & a committee structure, representing the members interests, but also with a network of national colleagues through the Chambers Ireland CEO forum & by extension global colleagues through Eurochambres & the International Chamber of Commerce. There are 5 days left to apply, I encourage anyone who is on the fence to reach out to Aideen at Collins McNicholas Recruitment & HR Services Group & wish all applicants the very best of luck in the recruitment process.
