Galway Economic Monitor - 2024 Mid-Year edition published Highlights include: 5,200 new jobs in Industrial sector in Q1, 2024, amid a decline across private services and public services sectors New residential construction activity reaches new peak in Q2 Public Transport usage reached new peak Friday, 2 August 2024, Galway The Galway Chamber, in collaboration with Grant Thornton, is delighted to publish the 2024 Mid-Year edition of the Galway Economic Monitor. As we emerge from the local City and County Council elections, the Galway Chamber remains focused on the priorities and opportunities, identified in their ‘Call to Action’, to enable the expansion and support of thriving communities in the West. The Economic Monitor reports that the Industrial sector continues to drive employment growth, with 5,200 new jobs created in Q1, 2024, while employment declined quarter over quarter across both the private services sector and the public services sector. With regard to housing, new residential construction activity reached a new peak in Q2, in light of continued increases in house prices and residential rents. The region continues to attract greater visitor numbers, with the volume of air passengers through Shannon Airport hitting just over half a million in Q1. Speaking about the publication of this issue of the Galway Economic Monitor, Deirdre Mac Loughlin, Interim CEO of Galway Chamber, said “The Galway Economic Monitor is a unique evidence-based dashboard showcasing the economic performance of Galway. Within 6 pages, key data relating to the Labour Market, Housing and Transport is presented in a readily accessible format that demonstrates the trends, highlights and areas where further attention is required. The Galway Economic Monitor is an enabling tool for business and decision makers concerned with public policy and economic performance in Galway.
