Gaisce - The President's Award
Non-profit Organizations
Ireland’s national self-development programme where young people dream big and fulfil their potential!
About us
Gaisce – The President’s Award is a self-development programme for young people between 14-25 in Ireland, enhancing confidence and wellbeing through participation in personal, physical and community challenges. Gaisce is a direct challenge from the President of Ireland to young people to dream big and realise their potential. Gaisce is non-competitive, and participants are encouraged to choose their own activities and goals with the support of a trained, adult President’s Award Leader (or PAL). The Gaisce programme is delivered by 1,500+ PALs working and volunteering in a variety of organisations across Ireland. There are three levels of Gaisce – Bronze, Silver and Gold. The more time and energy participants give, the greater their reward! At Gaisce, we are focused on, and driven by, the following core values: Empowerment Making a difference, effecting change and enabling young people to shape their own path to self-discovery. Inclusion & Equality Every person has the opportunity to grow their potential through equality of access, participation and outcomes. Respect Valuing people equally, recognising diversity, and ensuring everyone is treated with dignity. Excellence Making an impact through pursuing the highest standards, operating with integrity and in a transparent manner. 💚 Our Gaisce - The President's Award Silver and Bronze group went on an exploration at the end of this school year! They explored the island and Gealtacht Cléire (Cape Clear) off the coast to the south of us. 🐬 It started with a fantastic ride on Cape Clear Ferries alongside a pod of dolphins, who put on a real show! ✏️ The group was responsible for the logistics of the exploration, rationing food, booking the campsite and planning our walking routes. The group adhered to the Leave No Trace Ireland principles throughout the trip. 🪨 With a keen interest in history, some of the group explored a few of the many archaeological sites on the island, which included the promontory fort at Dún an Óir and a signal tower dating from the Napoleonic Wars. 🌊 A highlight was a kayak trip with Maratacht ( https://lnkd.in/dfyh_QZd ) where the group paddled into some incredible caves. 👆But this exploration was only part of the Award: 💫Throughout the school year the participants explored their talents including learning to play the drums, cooking, coding and creative writing. 💫They proved their perseverance with their physical activities such as swimming, hiking and working out in the school gym. 💫And they showed their community commitment by volunteering in a charity shop, running clubs for others, and working in the community garden. 🏅What an accomplishment! 💖 Well done everyone, we are so proud! What a wonderful bonding experience to end the year with. https://lnkd.in/dWyGKdvm
