IMPACT OF “DOMINO’S CASE” ON EMPLOYMENT STATUS Revenue has recently published new guidelines on determining the employment status of workers for tax purposes. The guidance comes following the Supreme Court judgement issued in October 2023 in the case of Revenue Commissioners v Karshan (Midlands Ltd) trading as “Dominos” which found that delivery drivers should be treated as employees rather than self-employed. In the Domino's Case, the Supreme Court analysed the numerous tests that have been developed in English and Irish case law in considering whether an employment relationship exists. The Supreme Court found that Domino's delivery drivers should be classed as employees rather than as independent contractors. https://lnkd.in/ef3q4Min #EmploymentStatus #PAYE #EmploymentContracts #gigeconomy Leading At The Edge - Leadership insights from the frontline Dave Hickey Brian Savage

THAT EASTER EGG GIFT MAY HIDE A FUTURE TAX BILL Employers need to be aware that ALL gifts to employees are within the scope of the Small Benefits Exemption By Dave Hickey If an employer gives a gift of an Easter egg worth, say, €20 to an employee this week, that will count as one of the two benefits allowed to that employee this year. That means the employer is limited to providing one further tax-free small benefit in the year. https://lnkd.in/eqST8qZc #EnhancedReporting Leading At The Edge - Leadership insights from the frontline Galway Chamber #taxation #PAYE #Easter

DHKN TAX LEADER RAISES OVER €10,000 FOR HOMELESS DHKN's Eoghan McGuire, who leads the firm's tax compliance team, took part in the Business Leaders' Sleep Out for COPE Galway in late November and has so far raised over €10,000 for Cope's services for homeless people. "Despite the freezing temperature that night, it wasn't a bad experience for me because of the camaraderie amongst all those taking part," says Eoghan. "But it still gave us all some experience of what it is like to be homeless and have to sleep rough in Galway. It really shows why Cope's homeless services are so important to those who need them." Eoghan is pictured presenting a cheque for the amount he has raised so far to Sharon Fitzpatrick, Head of Development at Cope Galway. Also in the photo are DHKN Partners Stephen Crowley and Mark Gibbs. To find out how you can support Cope Galway go to www.copegalway.ie
