The latest MyHome.ie Property Report for Q2 2024, published today, cites the strong labour market and looser lending rules as some of the factors driving house prices. Conall Mac Coille, Group Chief Economist at Bank of Ireland and author of the report said: : “The clear message from the Q2 2024 MyHome.ie Property Price Report is that house prices have gained further momentum. Asking prices rose by 5% in Q2 2024, up 7.3% on the year, the highest figure since Q3 2022." Read the full MyHome.ie Property Report for Q2 2024, in association with Bank of Ireland below.

This week, we showcased our commitment to Irish homebuilding at a conference organized by the The Housing Agency Ireland, the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage, and the Department of Finance Ireland. John Feeney, our Head of Property, Project and Asset Backed Finance, discussed our leading role in funding new homes and attracting international capital to support Irish home building. We are funding approximately 21,000 residential units across c.170 sites, including 3,200 social housing units. Our goal is to support 25,000 new homes by 2026 with €2.5 billion in funding. To address equity financing challenges, we launched the Irish Homebuilding Equity Fund with the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund and Pearl Property Managers Limited. This €55 million fund aims to provide equity investment for housebuilders to unlock finance for sites with planning permission and residential zoning.

We hosted the WAM Leader Awards at the House of Lords! Last week, we had the honor of hosting the WAM Leader Awards, celebrating our partnership with AHEAD (Ireland) and the WAM programme. This initiative supports employment access for graduates with disabilities, and we’re proud to have three 2024/2025 graduates involved. Hearing the inspiring stories from the programme was truly uplifting. Special thanks to Enda Johnson, Eimear Moore, Rebecca Murray, and Edward Leonard for representing our I&D team and bringing home a WAM Leader award! We welcomed members of the Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach to meet with the our leading experts on fraud and security. Banks are on the front line in defending our customers, and wider society, from the threat of fraud. However more action is needed from all of us including telecoms companies, social media and tech firms, banks and fintechs, and State agencies. We recently announced an investment of €50 million on customer fraud prevention and protection. The investment includes €15million on new fraud prevention technology, along with a range of high-profile consumer awareness campaigns and support for customers who are targeted by fraudsters. If people suspect they have been a victim of fraud they should contact their bank immediately so that the bank can take action to stop a fraud in progress and try to recover funds. Bank of Ireland customers can call our Fraud Team 24/7, on the Freephone line 1800 946 764. We were honoured to host our first "Retail Ireland Next Gen Girls" event at our head office in Baggot Plaza last week. This event is one of a number of steps we are taking to focus on gender diversity – an early intervention on "what banking means to girls", future workforce or customers. We had over 40 young girls in attendance and they had the opportunity to listen to a panel of speakers talk about their career journeys to date, take part in a Q&A on subject choices and different routes to entering a career in Financial Services. They then took part in a really engaging and interactive session on fraud awareness and the need to Stop, Think, Check before making that financial transaction. A really inspiring and engaging group of girls that we hope to see leave their mark in the industry in the years to come! Susan Russell | Kate Butler | Sarah Ann Hennessy
