I’m Alfian, a project manager with experience in offshore surveying and a passion for innovation. Back in the day, I was involved in numerous offshore assignments for oil and gas and submarine infrastructure clients. My background includes a degree in Computer Engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia. At CLS, I serve as the local Project Manager for BMKG’s MMS, contributing to a complex project that aims to bring Indonesia’s maritime resilience to a whole new level."   ❓ Why did you choose to work at CLS? "I chose CLS because of its global reputation in satellite-based solutions for maritime safety and environmental monitoring. CLS’s commitment to sustainability aligns with my personal values, and I wanted to be part of a team that pioneers cutting-edge technologies for ocean conservation."   ❓ Can you tell us about the MMS project? "The MMS (Marine Meteorological System) project is a groundbreaking initiative that integrates weather data, IoT sensors, and predictive analysis. It aims to improve information dissemination to the public."   ❓ Why is it interesting or a source of pride to work on this project? "Working on the MMS project is incredibly fulfilling. We implemented state-of-the-art and innovative methodologies. Knowing that our work contributes to safer seas and supports livelihoods fills me with pride."   ❓ Is there anything else you would like to add? "I’m excited about the future transformation of MMS and the positive impact of the MMS project globally."   🌊 Marine Meteorology: Indonesia Always One Step Ahead   With over 17,000 islands and territorial waters comprising nearly 70% of its territory, Indonesia is a maritime country with the largest sea area and number of islands. Despite its natural marine resources, the maritime sector exploits less than 10% of this potential. To address this, the Indonesian government launched the World Maritime Axis vision, aiming to develop the maritime economy, enhance inter-island connectivity, and boost tourism.   To achieve this, efficient maritime meteorology services are crucial. The BMKG aims to provide Indonesia with the most advanced Maritime Meteorological System, ensuring safety and optimization for all maritime activities. MMS will help Indonesia better anticipate inclement weather and plan sea operations with accuracy and efficiency. This will reinforce Indonesia's position as an international player in meteorology and climate. MMS, powered by CLS, meets high standards of excellence to comply with BMKG requirements and deliver the best service to Indonesian citizens. It includes an ambitious in-situ observation network that will be a part of Indonesian meteorological history.

Among the many contributors to this problem is ghost fishing, a term used to describe abandoned or lost fishing gear that continues to trap and kill marine life indiscriminately. Lost or discarded fishing gear, such as nets, lines, and traps, can remain active in the indonesian seas for years, continuing to entangle and ensnare marine animals. However, a breakthrough tracking device has emerged as a potential solution to combat this issue. By identifying and tracking ghost fishing gear, this innovative technology aims to prevent further plastic pollution in our fragile marine ecosystems. 🛰#NAOS, the CLS Indonesian solution to prevent oceanic plastic pollution In an effort to address this environmental crisis, our scientists and engineers have developed a cutting-edge ghost fishing tracking device. 🗺This #InnovativeTechnology combines #satellite tracking and #DataAnalytics to locate and monitor lost fishing gear in the ocean. NAOS is a simple and compact Argos-GNSS satellite buoy designed for the tracking and relocation of fishing gear such as lines, nets, pots, traps and anchored and drifting Fish Aggregation Devices (#FADs).
