Project STOP marks further major milestones in 2023 and significant progress in the Project STOP Banyuwangi Hijau expansion programme. As of the end of 2023, Project STOP, co-founded by Borealis and Systemiq Ltd., has now provided in collaboration with its partners including the Government of Indonesia and our strategic partners from across the public, private and nonprofit sectors, almost 400,000 people with access to comprehensive waste services, enhancing community well-being and environmental sustainability. The initiative has generated close to 300 full-time jobs across all locations, bolstering local economies and collecting more than 60,000 tonnes of waste, including nearly 9,000 tonnes of plastic. In 2023, we handed over city projects in Pasuruan, East Java, and Jembrana, Bali, to the local government. We are now focused on the expansion of the Project STOP Banyuwangi Hijau programme in East Java. In September 2023, Project STOP opened a new material recovery facility (MRF) with a daily processing capacity of 84 tonnes of waste per shift. This facility, located in Songgon municipality, Banyuwangi, has started collecting and sorting waste from local households and is already providing access to waste services to more than 13,500 people in 12 villages. We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our journey towards a Circular Economy in Indonesia. On September 16 during #WorldCleanUpDay2023, Project STOP together with the Banyuwangi Government have inaugurated a new materials recovery facility (MRF). With this, we underline our further commitment to scale circular waste management systems across Banyuwangi. With the capacity to handle 84 tonnes of waste daily, this facility will have a profound positive impact on the lives of more than 250,000 residents in Banyuwangi, stopping the leakage of waste at source. We would like to thank the Indonesian government, our Project STOP funders and partners and the communities for their support. Together, we embrace the Circular Economy vision for a cleaner environment and healthier communities! #STOPWasteGoCircular #WorldCleanUpDay2023 https://lnkd.in/gqubk3WU

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this journey. This achievement reflects the shared dedication of all involved - from the community to our partners, including Alliance to End Plastic Waste and the Jembrana government. Your support, dedication, and enthusiasm have been the driving force behind this milestone to #STOPWasteGoCircular Borealis Systemiq Ltd.
One of our earliest projects is celebrating a milestone! Project STOP Jembrana is now fully implemented, providing more than 124,000 residents with waste collection services. Since the start, the project has created 86 jobs and collected 12,959 tonnes of waste, including 1,528 tonnes of plastic. The fully-functional and economically-viable waste management system has now been handed over to the Regency of Jembrana. This milestone highlights the Jembrana government’s continued commitment to building a cleaner, healthier environment. It shows the importance of public-private partnerships to permanently reduce plastic waste leakage into the environment and promote circularity. The valuable learnings of Project STOP will be applied across our portfolio. This is how we #CatalyseImpact to #EndPlasticWaste. Project STOP #STOPWasteGoCircular #WasteManagement #Recycling
