An agreement exists between the NBA and FIBA that governs the movement of players back and forth, and so Sacramento had to wait until he was a free agent overseas and had an interest in coming to the NBA. To lure him over, they guaranteed him $13 million, with a team option for 2025-26. A guaranteed contract works both ways. Vezenkov did not have a player option for 2024-25, and so when reports surfaced that he wanted to return overseas, he couldn’t just leave; the NBA-FIBA agreement wouldn’t allow him to break a contract with his NBA team.

Steve Kerr: There's no thought of replacing Kevin Durant on Team USA

Steve Kerr had hoped Kevin Durant would play in one of the games in London but the new plan is for him to practice with the team several times when it gets to France later this week. Kerr said he also wants Durant to have some contact and go through a scrimmage before bringing him back, which makes Sunday’s pool play opener against Serbia in some doubt. USA Basketball has until Saturday to finalize the roster and Durant will be on it. “There’s no thought of replacing Kevin,” Kerr said. “I was hoping he would get a game in here, but it just didn’t work out that way.”

He flatly said “no” when he was asked last week whether his previous history with calf injuries — he had a strain in his left calf just before suffering an Achilles injury in the same leg during the 2019 Finals — affected how he was approaching returning from this injury.

Dante Exum remains in the Australian national team roster for the Olympics despite finger injury

Danté Exum is likely to miss some time due to a finger injury but will remain with the Australian Boomers for the 2024 Paris Olympics, sources told ESPN. Exum suffered a dislocated finger in the second quarter of Monday morning’s (AEST) exhibition game between Australia and France, after the guard drove into the lane.

It was the last preparation for match for both national teams before the Olympic Games. Bogdan Bodganovic scored a game-high 19 points on 5-5 triples. Nikola Jokic contributed 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists while Filip Petrusev provided 15 points and eight rebounds.
