  • [Our Business Event-themed “A Practical Guidebook to Circular Economy (Volume 2)” Now Available to Support Your Company’s Circularity Journey!] Is your company hoping to organise or co-create a sustainable and circular business event but doesn’t know where to start? Look no further because the PSLB team has just officially published A Practical Guidebook to Circular Economy (Volume 2): Collaborating with Value Chain Partners for Organising Circular Events and Exhibitions at Knowledge Primer 7! Many companies play a part in business events at some point – be it organising, sponsoring, delivering, exhibiting, or simply attending one. They are increasingly committed to integrating sustainability into their businesses. Whilst their commitments should be consistently reflected in how they run or take part in events as well, this isn’t what has been observed in the market, yet. Introducing several locally relevant case studies and a standard-aligned six-step guide, our latest Practical Guidebook serves as a self-study material to equip you with the knowledge and skills to challenge this status quo. It will show you why and how a business event should and can, respectively, design out waste – through the value chain’s perspective. By learning from the exemplars and following the suggested steps in this Guidebook, you too can play a part in transitioning to circular model in business events. This Practical Guidebook is designed for project managers in the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) industry, as well as event teams, and marketing and communications managers in all companies that are keen on organising circular events in Hong Kong. It is applicable to business events regardless of scale, including but not limited to conventions, conferences, summits, forums, corporate meetings, trade shows and exhibitions.   Our Guidebook is available in English and Chinese for free. You can download it via one of the links below: English version – https://lnkd.in/gfnh5R65 Chinese version – https://lnkd.in/gZejqvPu Thank you once again, The Hongkong Bank Foundation and the contributing organisations, for making this Practical Guidebook come to fruition! • We cordially invite you to join the seventh Knowledge Primer (KP) titled “Enabling the Ecosystem for Resource Circularity in the MICE Industry” under the “Partnership for Sustainability Leadership in Business” (#PSLB) project, initiated by the Centre for Civil Society and Governance (CCSG), HKU with full support from The Hongkong Bank Foundation. Hong Kong is a bustling city that hosts a wide range of business events and exhibitions throughout the year. While they provide valuable market information, knowledge, networks and opportunities for professionals from businesses, government, and the non-profit sector, the cost of organising these events often comes at the expense of the environment, which contravenes the ideals of low-carbon and #sustainable future that many #businesses uphold. Therefore, it is imperative to transform the traditional ‘linear’ nature of these events into a ‘#circular’ and more sustainable model. Leveraging the knowledge and practical experience of speakers from the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) industry, this Knowledge Primer will take a close look into the necessary conditions–be they infrastructure, policy change, industry support or innovative collaboration models–for resource circularity to take root in business events. Two keynote speakers will shed lights on the following topics: 1) Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) will discuss the role of Government policy, infrastructures and capacity building in guiding the trajectory of circularity and sustainability advancement in MICE industry; 2) Macau Fair & Trade Association will present on sustainable initiatives that incentivise the practitioners to adopt more circular and sustainable practices in order to achieve net zero goals. A moderated discussion featuring industry practitioners from Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited, Informa Markets, KPMG, New World Corporate Services Limited and ReThink HK will follow to cascade the industry’s best practices. The panellists will share views on the collaboration needed to catalyse circularity practices and innovation in the MICE industry. The event will also celebrate the launch of “A Practical Guidebook to Circular Economy (Volume 2): Collaborating with Value Chain Partners for Organising Circular Events and Exhibitions”. The Guidebook is a consolidated self-learning resource for the MICE industry practitioners to integrate resource circularity principles in the business operation through the value chain-based event frameworks. A well-thought step-by-step guidance and templates are made available to help readers putting ideas into action. The event details are as follows: Date: 6 June 2024 (Thursday) Time: 2:30pm – 5:30pm (4:30pm – 5:30 will be the networking session) Venue: Rayson Huang Theatre, The University of Hong Kong Event Registration: https://lnkd.in/gkYmekWU #HSBC #HBF

  • #GuruCase Series | Mr. Samuel Lee: “As a member of the retail industry, we also aim to promote sustainable lifestyles among our customers in Hong Kong.”】 What factors do you consider besides affordability and quality when purchasing different daily necessities? With the increasing emphasis on sustainable development, consumers and businesses are more concerned about responsible consumption and production, in the pursuit of maintaining the quality of life without putting excessive pressure on the environment. In this episode of #GuruCase, the PSLB team is honored to invite Mr. Samuel Lee, the Managing Director of Watsons Hong Kong, to share with us how the company, as a chained health and beauty retailer, collaborates with value chain partners to promote sustainable development and encourage customers to change their consumption behaviors. Here are some of their initiatives: 1.    AS Watson Group has introduced the ‘Greener Stores Global Framework’, which incorporates green elements into store design to improve energy efficiency. 2.    Promote suppliers to jointly support sustainable consumption and production practices, such as minimizing unnecessary packaging and ensuring all rinse-off products are microplastic-free. 3.    Collaborate with different suppliers to launch recycling reward programs, to encourage customers to build a recycling habit. Watch the full interview through the following link: https://lnkd.in/gJ2YGcGv From Samuel’s sharing, you can understand how we, as consumers, can reflect our concerns for environmental conservation and incorporate responsible consumption into our daily lives. #pslb #svc #businesssustainability #sustainabilityleadership #sustainability #business #sme #collaboration #sustainablevaluechains #sdgs #undp #hkwatsons The Hongkong Bank Foundation Watsons Hong Kong

  • #BestPractice Case Series: FH Rehabilitation Products Manufacturing Company Limited: Connecting Elderly Care Services and Innovative Technology, Building a Bridge to Joyful Aging】 Have you ever thought that the proportion of elderly individuals in Hong Kong will soar to 36% in 2046, implying that more than a third of the population will be aged over 65? As age increases, the elderly's ability to take care of themselves declines, and their children must naturally assume the responsibility of caring for their daily needs. However, as children age, they too become the elderly, resulting in the issue of two elderly individuals requiring care. In light of the global aging trend, #gerontechnology has emerged as a critical field. How can we leverage technology to simplify eldercare? FH Rehabilitation is a trailblazer in gerontechnology in Hong Kong, having developed related technologies since 2007. While sharing his business approach, Director Alan Tam emphasized that gerontechnology was not the same as general high-tech products. In addition to creating products that are tailored to meet users' needs, the company's connection to its customers is also vital. For instance, FH Rehabilitation has retail sales points, and some of their frontline store colleagues have physical disabilities. These individuals are better able to explain product features to customers and offer relevant advice based on their needs compared to others. Currently, approximately 70% of the company's internal team members have disabilities. An inclusive work culture not only provides more employment opportunities for people in need but also allows employees to use their own experience to communicate and engage with customers in a more practical manner. • #GuruCaseSeries| Ms. Teresa Yang: "While pursuing profitability, Esquel remains steadfast in upholding our integrity and taking a people-centric approach.” Updating the wardrobe every season has become a habit for some. However, the production processes - from sourcing raw materials to manufacturing and delivering to consumers, require substantial resources. Consequently, the environmental impact brought about by the fashion industry has been a widely debated topic. In this episode of #GuruCase, we are honored to have Ms. Teresa Yang, Vice Chairman of Esquel Group, to discuss in detail on how the Group approaches sustainable value chain management, and share with us how they, as a textile and apparel manufacturer, are addressing the issue of #environmental #pollution in the #fashion industry. Their endeavors in resource management include: 1) Consistently implementing the 5Rs (reduce, reuse, repurpose, recycle, and rot) principles at all stages of clothing production, with the aim to minimize waste and maximize the utilization of raw material.  2) Introducing groundbreaking waterless dyeing technology for cotton, which promotes responsible water usage and improves wastewater treatment capabilities.  3) Esquel Group has invested in dyeing techniques research, upgrading production facilities, and enhancing the tools for sharing samples with customers. These technologies integration can help create a production line that is aligned with the sustainability principle.  We believe the knowledge Teresa shared will not only enhance our sensitivity towards #responsibleconsumption but also inspire companies to build holistic measures to achieve sustainability. Tune in to her sharing now! https://lnkd.in/dTA3uYaM #pslb#svc#businesssustainability#sustainabilityleadership#sustainability#business#sme#collaboration#sustainablevaluechains#sdgs#undp
