About us
With the advancement of imaging and robotic technologies, new surgical procedures and treatment methods are transforming medical diagnosis and treatment solutions. The technologies enhance visual access and accurate surgeries using robotic technologies for the surgeons during endoluminal surgeries that are minimally invasive and are more accessible to patients worldwide. The Multi-Scale Medical Robotics Center brings the worlds of medicine and robotics together, focusing on technological innovation with a strong emphasis on clinical translation and direct patient benefits. The Center serves as a synergistic platform for clinicians, engineers and researchers from local and overseas universities to work together and forge new ways to translate biomedical engineering research innovations into medical practices. The Multi-Scale Medical Robotics Center will support three research programmes: • Endoluminal multi-scale robotic platforms for diagnostics and therapeutics • Magnetic-guided endoluminal robotic platform • Image-guided robotic interventions In the long run, the Center will serve as a medical robotics incubation hub to foster medical technology start-ups, provide training in the areas of fully-integrated approaches and use of robotic technologies, pre-clinical design and intra-operative use of medical robots.

Multi-Scale Medical Robotics Center (MRC) Symposium 2024 Multi-Scale Medical Robotics Center Symposium 2024 (MRC Symposium 2024) #mrcsymposium will be held on 9th -11th May 2024 in CUHK Medical Centre (Main Symposium) and MRC R&D Lab, Hong Kong Science Park (Hands-on Workshop). 【CUHK develops magnetic hydrogel micromachines for anti-biofilm treatment】 #Biofilms are slimy films composed of #microorganisms and the substances produced by them, which are difficult to be eliminated. Biofilms can grow on various surfaces, including medical implants such as artificial tubes inserted into the human body during treatment. A CUHK collaborative research team, led by Professor Zhang Li from the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering in CUHK Faculty of Engineering, has developed magnetic hydrogel #micromachines that can combat biofilm within small tubular medical implants. Featuring new on-demand reactive oxygen species (#ROS) releasing technology, the micromachines open up the possibility of applying the treatment to a broader range of body parts, especially hard-to-reach regions deep inside the body.
