As general purpose leases of about 2,400 lots will expire from June 2025 to 29 June 2047, and approximately 300,000 lots will expire concurrently on 30 June 2047, the Legislative Council passed the Extension of Government Leases Bill on 26 June 2024 and gazetted the Extension of Government Leases Ordinance (Cap. 648) (the Ordinance) on 5 July 2024. With the Ordinance coming into force on the same day of the Gazette, the Ordinance provides a more streamlined and efficient mechanism for extending the voluminous number of government leases by operation of law, instead of requiring the government to execute individual new leases with each and every owner with a share in the landed property. As we wrap up our time in Qingdao, we hugely appreciated the invitation to attend and the opportunity to participate in the event and communicate with partners of Dacheng and other regions of Dentons during the Dacheng Partners Conference 2024. Managing Partner Keith Brandt and other Hong Kong partners had an outstanding evening with partners from various offices of Dacheng, including Beijing, Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu and Yichang on 29 Jun. A purposeful discussion was also held between Keith Brandt and Li Chen, Managing Partner of Dacheng Nanjing, as the office leadership exchanged plans to enter into a secondment program between the teams, to enhance and deepen cooperation between the two firms. On the last day of the conference, during an afternoon program of presentations by a number of Dentons regions to the Dacheng partnership, Keith Brandt delivered a comprehensive address about the capabilities of Dentons Hong Kong. The weekends activities concluded in the evening, with a banquet together with Dacheng’s leadership and colleagues from Dentons around the world. Special thanks to the Dacheng team for organising and inviting Dentons Hong Kong partners to join a truly inspirational annual partners meeting. #Dentons #DentonsHongKong #Dacheng #PartersMeeting #Collaboration

Dentons Hong Kong is truly delighted to reunite with dear friends of Dacheng in Qingdao for its 2024 Partners Conference. Over 1,300 partners participated in this event, including partners from other regions of Dentons and the Hong Kong office: Managing Partner Keith Brandt, partners Richard Keady, Robert Rhoda, and Stephen Chan, engaged in discussions about the future collaborations and development between two firms. As anticipated, we had productive and fruitful exchanges, as well as the cultivation of lasting partnerships. On 27 June, we hosted a special dinner by inviting partners from various Dacheng offices, including Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Qingdao, Guangzhou, and Zhuhai. This delightful evening marked a harmonious connection between Dentons Hong Kong and the Dacheng partners. On 28 June, Managing Partner Keith Brandt was invited to join a lunch with Chairman Mr Yuan Hua and other important board members of Dacheng. They gathered to discuss and explore future collaborations between Dentons Hong Kong and Dacheng. Separately, Keith Brandt hosted presentations together with representatives from Dentons' global offices, providing an opportunity for the Dacheng partners to gain a deeper understanding of the wider Dentons global team. Today, on 29 June, the spirit of communication and collaboration continues as Dentons Hong Kong organized morning meetings with the participation of several partners from Dacheng Beijing and Shanghai to explore client specific matters and future business expansion planning. We look forward to participating in the upcoming events on 30 June, including a more detailed presentation by Keith Brandt about the capabilities of Dentons Hong Kong. #Dentons #DentonsHongKong #Dacheng #PartnerConference #Collaboration

Dentons continues to enhance its global network of legal professionals through collaboration and knowledge sharing among its partners. Building upon the success of their previous visits to Dacheng's offices in Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Nanjing in April 2024, Dentons Hong Kong's Litigation and Dispute Resolution team recently concluded their third roadshow in Mainland China. From 18 to 24 June 2024, the team visited Dacheng's offices in Chongqing, Chengdu and Kunming, deepening cooperation between the two firms. Led by Partner Robert Rhoda, the Dentons Hong Kong team explored the benefits of arbitration in Hong Kong and shared their extensive experience in handling arbitration cases. Counsel Jean Lau and Managing Associate Paul Lin delivered an informative seminar on Hong Kong’s legal system, the enforcement of PRC judgments in Hong Kong, the strategic use of Mareva Injunctions in cross-border disputes and an overview of winding-up procedures in Hong Kong. On this occasion, the team was joined by Managing Associate Nigel Chan, who examined the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission’s powers of investigation and disciplinary action highlighting the challenges and issues faced by Mainland Chinese companies listed in Hong Kong. During the visit, the team also had the privilege of meeting with an important client in Chengdu. These visits provided an ideal opportunity for Dentons Hong Kong and Dacheng to strengthen and deepen their ties and to further cooperation between the firms. The warm hospitality from and active participation of colleagues at Dacheng were sincerely appreciated by the Dentons Hong Kong team. #Dentons #DentonsHongKong #Dacheng #Collaboration #LegalServices #Litigation #DisputeResolution

At the end of a company's life cycle, a liquidator will usually be brought in to realise the company's assets and distribute what remains of them. Commonly, the liquidator is a complete stranger to the company. To ensure insofar as possible that a liquidator will obtain everything he needs to carry out his functions, the liquidator is given statutory powers which contain several important weapons to obtain information.
