Have you ever noticed your departing and return flights may have different flight times, even when you are travelling between the same two airports 👀? The simple answers are wind, and an upper atmosphere effect known as the jet stream 💨. Essentially, Earth’s rotation causes winds in the northern hemisphere to blow from west to east, and air to circulate from warmer to colder regions and back. These become jet streams, which vary daily and by season, and can be a sizable factor in determining flight time. For example, it is faster to fly to Tokyo from Hong Kong in winter, while the return flight takes longer. That’s why our flight dispatcher team would sometimes opt for a detour, taking advantage of the tailwind on the way over and minimise the headwind exposure for the return ✈️! A global initiative, the platform pools turbulence data from thousands of flights around the world 🌏, with the aim of reducing the risks associated with turbulence. Turbulence Aware feeds real-time turbulence information to our crew, allowing them to make more accurate weather forecasts, and better prepare for turbulence to minimise passenger discomfort, and enhance flight safety. Our cabin crew's safety is uncompromisable, and we've also enhanced our inflight safety procedure to reflect that — whenever turbulence is expected, our pilots will share timely information to let our crew know exactly when to pause inflight service to better protect you and their own safety. Welcome home, B-HLV! After being grounded for 1,409 days, we have flown our last plane in storage out this month from Australia's Alice Springs back to our home city Hong Kong. Since July 2020, Alice Springs has served as a temporary sanctuary for our aircraft. B-HLV, our first aircraft to be flown into Alice Springs, was also the last to leave. The return of B-HLV not only marks the completion of our parking and reactivation programme, but also the triumph of our dedicated team over unprecedented challenges. As we continue to expand our network, B-HLV will take on new journeys and have the chance to visit new destinations. Back in the skies, B-HLV will return to its most familiar territory to connect you with your loved ones, business opportunities, and adventures abroad.
