#Australia and #HongKong both have ambitious targets for tackling plastic pollution. Marine pollution in particular, is a shared challenge. Australia’s ocean territory is the world’s third largest. Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated areas in the world – and is surrounded by water. 🌎 With Hong Kong taking a major step banning the distribution of a range of single-use plastic items at restaurants and hotels, and Australia pushing for a legally binding global treaty to end plastic pollution at the United Nations, now is the time for governments, industry and community to say no to single-use plastics and embrace reusable alternatives. ♻️ This #PlasticFreeJuly our Consulate eco-warriors have pledged to take the challenge in cutting down on plastic waste. Started in Western Australia in 2011, Plastic Free July is now a global movement helping people and organisations take action to reduce plastic pollution. Their call to action: “whether it's choosing to #UpCup for takeaway coffees ☕, avoiding pre-packaged produce 🍎, or refusing plastic bottled drinks 💧, every choice counts.” Will your company take the pledge? https://lnkd.in/gk8bExdn 📸 Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Queensland © Tourism Australia & Typhoon Shelter, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong © Hong Kong Tourism Board

To mark the UN’s #International Day of Rural Women# we partnered with one of the most popular Australian-style coffee shops in Beijing-- #UniqueCoffee# to host our autumn season alumni coffee club. Our alumni participated in a lively discussion on women in leadership and the empowerment of rural women. At the event, two senior diplomats from the Australian Embassy, Ms. Deb Langford, Minister-Counsellor (Agriculture) and Ms. Carolyn Atkinson, Counsellor (Public Affairs and Culture), reflected on their own education and career journey, as well as the life and career wisdom provided by their women role models – including their own family members. They also shared their valuable tips on how to improve your approach to leadership.
