【AI and the Future of Work】 Singapore Leads in AI Skill Adoption, Software Engineers Most Likely to be Augmented by AI LinkedIn's latest Future of Work report has just unveiled some astounding insights! Did you know that Singapore is leading the world in adopting artificial intelligence skills? Since January 2016, the ratio of LinkedIn members in Singapore adding AI skills to their profiles has grown a whopping 20 times, significantly outpacing the global average of eight times. Finland, Ireland, India, and Canada follow closely behind, making up the top five countries with the highest rates of AI skills diffusion. But it's not all rosy. As AI continues to automate many aspects of the workforce, soft skills such as creative thinking, leadership, and communication are becoming increasingly important. The report found that a high 96% of software engineers' skills could potentially be augmented by AI, suggesting a significant shift in the nature of work and the skills required for future success. As we move forward into this new era, it's clear that the human touch and emotional intelligence will continue to play a crucial role in determining when to leverage AI capabilities rather than human ones. The future of work is here, and it's more intertwined with AI than ever before. 【Google Chrome's AI to Summarize Articles for Enhanced Browsing Experience】 Google is revolutionizing your browsing experience with an AI-powered feature that can summarize articles in a snap. This advancement is part of the Search Generative Experience (SGE), an initiative that continues to evolve since its introduction at Google I/O in May. The new feature, known as "SGE while browsing," is set to debut on iOS and Android versions of the Google app before it graces the desktop version of Chrome. It's an extension of SGE's current capability to summarize search results, offering users a streamlined approach to web browsing. Google's SGE aims to save you the time and hassle of scrolling through extensive articles. Once you've clicked a link, the AI will generate "key points" from the article, making it easier to absorb the essential information. To use this feature, simply tap an icon at the bottom of the screen. However, it's important to note that this will only work with articles that are freely accessible on the web. Google has clarified that the feature is not designed to bypass paywalls. The launch of "SGE while browsing" is part of an ongoing experiment under Google's opt-in Search Labs program. If you're already a participant in the SGE program, you'll get access to this exciting new feature. If not, you can opt in to use "SGE while browsing" separately. Moreover, Google is also enhancing the SGE with additional upgrades. For example, search results on topics like science, economics, and history will now include hover-over definitions and diagrams for certain words. This update aims to make SGE's summaries of complex topics more comprehensible to users. SGE continues to evolve under Google's direction, and the company is satisfied with the progress. In a recent earnings call, CEO Sundar Pichai shared that user feedback for the feature "has been very positive so far" and that "over time this will just be how Search works." Stay tuned for more updates as Google continues to redefine our online browsing experience. Source: https://lnkd.in/d6M5a5yb

【Even AI Needs Real Images: The Curious Case of "MAD"】 In a fascinating revelation, researchers from Stanford University and Rice University have discovered that AI models trained on AI-generated images deliver subpar results. The output quality drastically decreases without an infusion of fresh, real-world data. This finding brings a sigh of relief to photographers and creators worldwide. The study reveals that incorporating synthetic images within a training data set exacerbates distortions, making human images appear progressively less human. The researchers coined a term for this novel AI phenomenon: Model Autophagy Disorder (MAD). The term 'autophagy' means self-consuming, implying that the AI image generator is effectively consuming its own created material. MAD sets in when there isn't enough fresh, real data in each loop of an AI model. The study states, "Future generative models are doomed to have their quality or diversity progressively decrease without enough fresh real data." So, what do these findings mean for the future of AI? If the research holds, AI won't become the inexhaustible data fountain it was once thought to be. AI models will continue to rely on real, high-quality images to evolve. This means that the AI of the future will still need photographers and creators for progress. Considering the increasing awareness among photographers and image agencies about their intellectual property being used to train AI image generators, this revelation might push AI companies to license training data. Since AI tools like DALL-E and Midjourney became popular, their creators have maintained that they use "publicly available" data for model training. However, this includes copyrighted photos. Although they might evade legal repercussions for the initial AI image generators, future models will likely require collaboration with image professionals. In conclusion, the AI future might not be as self-sufficient as once believed. It turns out, even AI needs a little help from its human creators! Source: https://lnkd.in/gakxuheH
