Is the SC Custom III – a new addition to its “fan favourite” SC range – Harley Benton’s answer to expensive Epiphones?
Several variations are on offer, so players can find the right look and pickup configuration for their needs.

Harley Benton has updated its SC line with the launch of its brand new SC Custom III model – available in a whole range of finishes and variations for the demands of modern players.
The brand says that each has been “crafted to deliver exceptional performance”, and that they are “designed for players who demand a rock solid instrument that is versatile, whether it’s for laying down smooth grooves or unleashing fiery riffs.”
With current Epiphones climbing up the price ladder, these single cut models offer the Les Paul body shape at a super affordable price range.
The SC-Custom III is available in Vintage Black Satin (also left-handed), Lemon Flame, Ocean Flame, Purple Burst, Desert Burst, Satin Paradise, and Gold Top. There’s also a P90 version in Gloss Black, an Active version in Vintage Black Satin and White, and finally a SC-Custom III FR in Vintage Black.
All models in the SC Custom III range host a Meranti body and neck with a Modern C-profile and 22 medium jumbo Stainless Steel frets on a Jatoba fingerboard. Each SC-Custom III model also features a WSC bridge and tailpiece, along with an ABS nut and Grover tuners.
This is all except for the FR variation, which instead features a Floyd Rose locking tremolo. Players can further dial-in their tones using the individual volume and master tone controls, a three-way toggle switch, and a push/pull coil split feature.
In the standard SC-Custom III are two Tesla Alnico-5 pickups that mimic the classic humbuckers of old, but “with enough grit and bite for the modern era”. Its Active model is designed for players looking for even higher output from their guitar, with – you guessed it – active pickups. Players looking for a slightly less aggressive output should opt for the SC-Custom III P90, with its two Tesla Alnico-5 P90 pickups for “fat yet articulate” tone.
