Venture Capital / Private Equity Deal and Funding Round Data Sources

There are many places you can get lists of – or information about – VC and PE deals and funding rounds.

For General Research & Information

  • PitchBook – see PitchBook access help
    1. In the left menu go to Screeners > Companies & Deals.
    2. Use the tabs to add additional search criteria, such as date, deal type, etc.
    3. In the upper right click Search and go to the Deals tab.
  • CB Insights – see CB Insights access help
    1. In the left menu, select Advanced Search > Deal Search.
    2. Use the Filter by: options to search by additional criteria, such as date, deal size, etc.
    3. In the upper left click See Results.
  • Preqin – see Preqin access help
    1. In the top menu, go to Search For > Deals/Exits.
    2. Use the filters to search by date, location, investment type, sector, etc.
    3. In the upper right click Export to download to Excel.
  • Tracxn – see Tracxn access help
    1. In the Products menu go to Explore Databases > Companies or Funding Rounds.
    2. Use the options in the left navigation to limit to a specific universe.
    3. Use the filter options above the results to search by date, location, investment type, sector, etc.

For Large Datasets

The above resources limit downloads, so these are the best options when you need a lot of data. If you're a Stanford GSB researcher, contact us so we can talk more about your research and available sources.

  • LSEG Workspace – see LSEG Workspace access help
    1. In the search box, type screen and select the Screener app.
    2. In the left screening options, change the Universe drop down to Private Equity Investments. Use the other options to filter by deal type, date, location, value, etc. Use the Add Filter search box to find additional options.
    3. Once the results load, in the Add Column box at the top of the results, click on the table of contents icon to add columns with additional data items, such as the Round Number.
    4. Use the Excel icon to export to Excel (there are download limits, so you may need to export your results in batches).
  • Preqin (in WRDS) – doesn't include individual investors – see WRDS access help.
    1. Under Subscriptions select Preqin.
    2. Fill out the Web Query Form (see instructions).
  • SDC Platinum – see SDC Platinum access help.
