Hi everyone,

I hope you're all well.

Open Data Day starts tomorrow! Today there are 230+ events registered on the site and dozens of new people have joined the list in recent weeks - welcome to you all! There's still time to register your events on the website, as the map won't be closed during next week.

This email is just to remind you of a few things to help promote your activities:
In case you haven't seen it yet, this is the list of the 26 organisations selected to receive a mini-grant.

We'd be delighted if you'd like to share photos and reports of the local events you're promoting or taking part in, so we can create a shared 2024 album.

The OKFN team is available at opend...@okfn.org, but the volume of messages is high, so we encourage you to use this list to get help from each other.

We hope that ODD24 will be amazing for everyone!

All the best,

--

Hi Lucas,

We are pleased to share our #ODD24 event from Bandung. That's right, from March 2-4, we successfully held an open mapping event with friends from the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Besides that, we also invited friends with disabilities to promote inclusivity and encourage the #OpenDataForSDGs goal for more equality in city development. The theme of our activity is: “Bus-friendly: mapping participation guiding blocks & halt for equality of public transportation users and engaging disabled voices”.

This activity ran for 3 days. On Day 1, we introduced open mapping using OpenStreetMap and learned about the needs of people with disabilities in public transport. Therefore, it can be proven that the participants were very enthusiastic about asking questions and taking part in the activities, with one of them even winning a door prize. On Day 2, we conducted field surveys to assess bus stops along the Trans Metro Pasundan (TMP) corridor no.4 and rated tactile paving in Bandung. On the last day, we processed and entered field data into OSM using iD Editor and Wikipedia.

From this event, we are honored to participate in Open Data Day 2024. Many thanks to Humanitarian OpenStreetMap (HOT) and the Open Data Knowledge Foundation (OKFN) for their invaluable sponsorship."

The activities carried out are:
• The virtual campaign
The virtual campaign took place from 02 to 06 March 2024 with the publication of articles and posters on Open Data Day 2024. With series of articles on open data, what is open data, history, the ten principles of open data.
• 2024 Open Data Information Campaign
As part of Open Data Day, edition 2024. The Central African Tech team had organized on March 7, 2024, a series of information sessions at the following institutions: CPJ School Complex, CISJEU, Lycée Barthélemy Boganda, Miskine and ENES. The discussions were divided: the history of the day, what is open data? The ten principles. The team distributed 1,000 posters, pamphlets, and open data information tracks.
The information campaign ended well in an atmosphere of exchange.

Austin, TX US celebrated Open Data Day on Saturday, March 9. The event was sponsored by Open Austin <www.open-austin.org>. It ran all afternoon. 49 people attended. The event opened with welcoming remarks from Austin mayor pro tem Leslie Pool. Then we had presentations from City of Austin staff, data scientists from the University of Texas at Austin, and the community. Finally we broke out into five groups and collaboratively hacked on various datasets. The event was a success, and we look forward to advancing local open data initiatives.
