MANASSEH FRANKLIN writer / editor / educator
I am a writer based in the Colorado Rockies specializing in science communication, climate change narratives and environmental education. I have an MFA in creative nonfiction and environment and natural resources from the University of Wyoming and a BA in Professional Writing and International Studies from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.
My writing has been published in Alpinist, Aspen Sojourner, Adventure Journal, Western Confluence, High Country News, Trail Runner, Rock and Ice magazines and more. I’ve received numerous creative grants and scholarships for my writing, including Honorable Mention in the Cutthroat Journal of the Arts Barry Lopez Nonfiction prize for my essay “Finding the Small Ones” on encountering shrinking glaciers in the continental U.S. I am the former Editor-in-Chief of the longest running backcountry ski publication on the web, WildSnow.com.
As a lecturer in the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources, I teach online courses in environmental humanities and tourism and recreation theory. Over the past nine years I’ve taught courses in environment and society, professional development, technical and science writing, publication editing, and beginner and advanced college composition.
I offer freelance editing services for books, websites and marketing campaigns, as well as technical, copy and science writing.
