About Industrial Hip-Hop

Industrial Hip-Hop (also known as “Noise Rap”) is a genre that combines elements of industrial music with hip-hop. The genre is generally confrontational and experimental, and makes frequent use of noise and distortion.

Experiments with industrial hip-hop began as early as the mid-1980s (by artists such as Mark Stewart, Tackhead, The Beatnigs, and Consolidated), but the genre didn’t truly take shape until the late 1990s and 2000s (Dälek, Techno Animal, B L A C K I E, Saul Williams). The genre found increasing popularity in the 2010s thanks to artist such as Death Grips, clipping., and JPEGMAFIA (along with Kanye West’s Yeezus and Tyler The Creator’s Cherry Bomb).
