About Dubstep
Dubstep is a subsection of EDM
It relies on a persistent “wobbling” baseline that is played at a slow speed. It also fuses elements of Grime, 2-step, Reggae, Dub, and UK garage. It distinguishes itself with its Syncopation (or disrupt of normal musical rhythm/flow) through dotted 8th note rythm.
It started in the very early 2000s as a small London-based community of DJs. When it came to the mid-2000s, dubstep really blew up in North America and was seen influenced in multiple different genres. Eg: Techno DJs are intertwining Dubstep music with their 4x4 beats. The sound that became popularised in NA (and the world) was largely very different from the original British sound, giving rise to the name ‘brostep’ to distinguish it.
