How Calvin Harris And Taylor Swift’s Break-Up Is Playing Out On Wax

There’s his new collab “Olé” and the drama around “This Is What You Came For.”

Calvin Harris new song “Olè,” just might be airing out why he and Taylor Swift split up. It’s no secret Taylor—and plenty/every other musician airs out hurt feelings, broken relationships, and ex-partners—has aired out past romantic relationships on record. But things seem to have taken a more dramatic turn over the last week.

Things heated up after the Scottish DJ released a new collaboration with English singer John Newman that focuses on infidelity. If this song is, in fact, written about Taylor, it’s likely from the perspective of her new beau Tom Hiddleston watching her past relationship with Calvin and the lyrics include quite a few possible subliminal shots.

Possibly in response, Taylor Swift’s rep issue a statement today confirming that she wrote and sang on Calvin’s Rihanna collab “This Is What You Came For” under the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg (a former Swedish Olympic gymnast).

Swift and Harris ended their relationship a little over a month ago, and Taylor seemingly bagged a new beau days later.

Some of the “Olé” lyrics seem to take shots at the new guy:

Lowkey, you won’t tell none of your friends about me

In the Thor movie franchise, Tom plays the character Loki—a homonym for “lowkey.”

I see online that you’ve begun to be a good girl and take trips with your boyfriend

Taylor and Calvin vacationed to an undisclosed beach location in March 2016—the former couple has since deleted all of their photos from the trip. This lyric suggests that Tom was watching the two from afar. However, there seems to be some subtle shade towards Taylor’s hit “Style,” in which she sings she’s got “good girl faith.”

Call me to tell me you’ve been going through hell, left him alone and you booked in a hotel

This line from the second pre-chorus may be referring to Calvin’s car accident and hospitalization earlier this year. Taylor spent a lot of time with him after the crash and missed the Billboard Music Awards as a result. This lyric suggests that Taylor may have reserved a hotel room to get away from the chaos and spend time with Tom.

Over the last week, rumors started to swirl that Taylor wrote—and sang on—"This Is What You Came For.“ It started with a Glamour post where one fan broke down where she heard Taylor’s vocals on the track. Then the Wikipedia credits were changed after many fans realized there was no notable songwriter under the name Nils Sjoberg.

After a few days, her rep confirmed she wrote the song under a pseudonym—Nils Sjoberg—for Calvin, and originally wanted to keep the collaboration private. One fan pointed out the couple might have been trolling fans the entire time:

Now that the news is out there, Calvin sent out a few tweets addressing the reports.

There’s sure to be more music based on this break-up but for now, read all of the lyrics to “Olè,” on Genius.
