Are You Gone Already Lyrics

[Chorus: Billie Eilish & Nicki Minaj]
Don't you know too much already? (Are you gone already?)
I'll only hurt you if you let me
Call me friend, but keep me closer (Call me back)
And I'll call you when the party's over
Quiet when I'm coming home and I'm on my own

[Verse 2: Nicki Minaj & Billie Eilish]
So dear Onika, yes, where Onika? (I could lie, say I like it like that)
Don't stress, Onika, so blessed, Onika (Like it like that)
Today, it's 12/3/23 (I could lie, say I like it like that)
Your baby's three, he's the best, Onika (Like it like that)
Set me, set me, set me free
Why didn't you come back to get me?

Let me, let me, let me be
Why would anyone want to love me?
Rich, yes, but are you happy? (Rich, yes, but are you happy?)
All this guilt you carry is heavy (All of this guilt is heavy)
You've already made your peace with me
One day, you'll have to forgive Mommy
But she knows you know too much already
(Don't you know too much already?)

[Chorus: Billie Eilish]
I'll only hurt you if you let me
Call me friend, but keep me closer (Call me back)
And I'll call you when the party's over
Quiet when I'm coming home and I'm on my own
And I could lie, say I like it like that, like it like that
I could lie, say I like it like that, like it like that
[Bridge: Billie Eilish]
Nothin' is better sometimes
Once we've both said our goodbyes
Let's just let it go
Let me let you go

[Chorus: Billie Eilish]
Quiet when I'm comin' home and I'm on my own
I could lie, say I like it like that, like it like that
I could lie, say I like it like that, like it like that

About

Genius Annotation

“Are You Gone Already” is the intro track to Trinidadian rapper Nicki Minaj’s fifth studio album Pink Friday 2.

Over emotional production and a sample of Billie Eilish’s 2018 track “when the party’s over”, Minaj discusses the 2021 death of her father, Robert Maraj, with her expressing her grief and lamenting that her son never got the opportunity to meet his grandfather.

The track’s existence, as well as Eilish’s involvement, was revealed through a Twitter post from Minaj on December 7, 2023, hours prior to the album’s release.

What did Nicki Minaj say about "Are You Gone Already"?
Genius Answer

The first verse is me speaking to my father. My father just passed right after I had the baby, and it was during Corona and nobody knew it was going on and so I didn’t want to let anyone in my home, because with the baby. So one day, I was rocking the baby in the rocking chair in his room. And I do not normally even have the phone when I’m rocking him. […] But anyway, that day the phone rings, I see it’s my father, I normally would not have picked up, ‘cause I don’t like to be on the phone with the baby there. But I picked up, he was very happy, he said “Baby, I can come on Monday”, 'cause he had been waiting to be able to come to Cali’ to be able to help me. But I knew if he’d come to be with us we were gonna be happy, he’s a great person. But so that was Friday, and then we went to bed, and sometime late while we were all asleep, the phone rang, and it was my mother telling me my father was in an accident. And then everything started spinning. […] So I opened the album with talking to my father. And then I begin to explain the time from my mother first calling me to her calling me telling me he didn’t make it. And the second verse I’m talking as the inner child. […] It was so scary to release the song, I always feel like I have to give my core fans an update when I come out with an album, and I think that’s why it took a lot longer because of the events that took place between the albums.
