“creature” explores the nature of two contrasting messages displayed earlier in the album, both of which are key to the faith held by frontman Josh Taylor: humanity’s perfection and holiness as creations of God, and humanity’s complete helplessness and hopelessness as fallen, sinful beings. The conclusion seems to unite the whole album:

“creature” is the longest track on half•alive’s debut album Now, Not Yet and contains a voice memo from UK model Liz Ord in the outro. She also features on the album’s interlude, “the notion.” It is the first song the band wrote together during a songwriting session at an Airbnb in California. J. Tyler and Brett revealed in a 2019 interview that is is their favorite song on the album.

‘creature’ was interesting because it was the first song that we were writing from scratch-ish and then we actually stopped in the middle of it and wrote more songs and then came back to it, and we were able to finally finish it.
