Jack explained the meaning behind this song in a Twitter video:

Foreign Girls is really what the album is about- knowing what’s gone, how you’ve become complicated, and the ways that it’s made you a stranger. The reason why it’s called “Foreign Girls” is because originally I wanted to write a song with that title because I thought, “oh it’d be so interesting to fall in love with someone who I can’t communicate with.” I could sort of start over and pretend I’m someone else. It was a fantasy, but then it just became a phrase for this song of “here’s where I fucked it up.”
