“Born Blue” is an unreleased song by Billie Eilish recorded in 2020 in early sessions for “Happier Than Ever.” It was first teased as a caption on a picture that Billie posted to Instagram. The song was teased a second time when Billie posted a zoomed-in photo of an extremely early tracklist for “Happier Than Ever” on her Instagram story, in August of 2020. Fans then pieced together the letters to form the tracks “Therefore I Am” and “Born Blue.” After the album’s release, Billie confirmed that Born Blue was indeed going to be track six on what became “Happier Than Ever,” but she just “couldn’t figure the song out.” Four years later in 2024, the song was reworked and released as the second part of the closing track on Billie’s third studio album, “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT,” along with another unreleased song “True Blue,” being featured in the same song.
