📢 The 10th session of the Implementation of IMO Instruments Sub-Committee (III 10) was held in person in London (22 – 26 July 2024). Dive into our full report on III 10 here: https://lnkd.in/ewinfsmu 💡 Notwithstanding the usual agenda of III (safety investigation reports, PSC procedures, survey guidelines), the General Secretary urged the participants to deliver a guidance to assist in the implementation of the Cape Town Agreement. Political efforts have intensified to reach the decisive criteria for an early entry into force of the Agreement before the UN Ocean Conference (June 2025). The guidance would be helpful in encouraging more ratifications and guiding early implementation if any Member State wishes so. This may unlock the ratification process of the long-awaited Torremolinos Convention concerning the safety of fishing vessels (adopted in 1977). By pushing forward on this emblematic item, the III 10 only progressed on many other topics.

🌍 Shaping a better maritime world with: Carbon Capture for Industry Interest in carbon capture and storage (CCS) from marine stakeholders is rising as they look for new options to reduce emissions. Onboard CCS solutions are the next evolution of already effective CCS technology onshore that traps CO2 before it is emitted into the atmosphere. Captured carbon can then be stored or repurposed for a number of industrial uses. In the meantime, shipping could play a significant role in transportation of CO2 from the CCS of other industries to its storage site. We support the safe and quick development of CCS technology. From design proposals to safety assessments, we’re by your side at each step of the energy transition. Bureau Veritas is proud to collaborate with partners on DuraBond Offshore – our Joint Industry Project (JIP) investigating the durability of composite patch repairs. Bonding is a flexible and non-intrusive solution for installing or repairing structure without the use of welding. After the initial phase of static and fatigue tests on composite patch repair during the StrengthBond JIP, DuraBond focuses on long-term viability of the solution in an offshore environment. The JIP aims to: ✅ Determine the long-term behavior of the composite patch ✅ Understand different damage mechanisms ✅ Challenge existing safety factors Learn more on DuraBond ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ePvEqbYR Learn more on StrengthBond JIP ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eTTxjrDE Thank you to our participating industry partners TotalEnergies, Petrobras, NAVAL GROUP, COLD PAD, FUZE and Siemens in collaboration with Université Gustave Eiffel, Nantes Université, UFRJ - Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. 🌊🚢 Honoring seafarers with SAMSA The South African Maritime Safety Authority, in collaboration with the Department of Transport (DoT), invited Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore South Africa to celebrate the Day of the Seafarer on June 25, 2024. The event, held at the N Shed Terminal in Durban, gathered over 100 maritime sector delegates and 150 enthusiastic students from schools in and around the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality. This celebration honored the incredible contributions of seafarers to global trade and the economy, while also raising awareness about their significant, yet often challenging roles. In a day full of engaging activities, students had fun while learning – for example crafting and decorating their own paper boats. They also each received a gift bag of educational resources from Bureau Veritas at the end of the day. We’d like to give a big shoutout to our team members Jeremy Brown, SEA District Manager, Cristelle de Vos (Barnes), EMC/NC Surveyor and Jayandree Pillay, Marine Assistant for their active participation. We are thrilled about the positive impact this event had on the students and look forward to continuing to inspire the next generation of seafarers in 2025! #ShapingaBetterWorld #DayOfTheSeafarer #MaritimeEducation #BureauVeritas #SAMSA #FutureSeafarers
