What if we had a completely different point of reference to establish or admire the design we see today? What if we broke paradigms and began to see differently?

D.D.A. (data-driven art), the interactive installation by Ditroit Studio for Milan Design Week 2024 really impressed me, simple and yet so carefully detailed. In this temporary lab, Delta, Theta, Alfa, Beta and Gamma brain waves of the participants are tracked and translated into unique and unrepeatable compositions through a real-time algorithm that establishes connections between colors and brain waves associated with states such as focused attention, engagement in cognitive tasks, daydreaming and relaxation. This is my brain-generated poster! I wish I had more time to explore the possible variations, deliberately trying to alter the end result through the direction of my thinking. Thoughts? 😅 *Btw there's still time to try it until the 20th of April @ Dream Gallery (Viale Abruzzi 28, Milan) #designweek2024 #designweekmilano #generativeart #ditroitstudio #ditroit #designstudio #digitalartworks #mdw #brainart #interactiondesign #fuorisalone2024 #datadriven #data

In #MusicTech, we often think of #SoundDesign as a matter of building #SynthPatches and #FXchains. Occasionally, we might point out that Richard Devine has created an #AuditoryExperience for a car manufacturer or there might be some collab between a sound artist and some #UXdesigner (who, presumably, focuses on visuals or on material objects). Lots of UXDs do come from either #GraphicDesign (including album covers and posters for shows) or #IndustrialDesign. Lest we forget, #DesignWork goes way beyond those fields. Similarly, not all #UXers are designers. From #UXwriting to #UXresearch, there’s a lot happening in our line of work which requires diverse skills and forms of collaboration. (I currently work as an #ethnographer in UX projects.) As an aural person with a background in ethnomusicology, my life would run the risk of being complete were I to contribute to some UX activities around sound generally or about #musicking more specifically. Even for a brief period of time. As I frequently point out in my personal activities, there are deep needs for #DesignThinking among devs and manufacturers of the instruments and tools we use in #ElectronicMusic. With people like Le Porcher and Poulin getting UX people enthusiastic about sound, there might be hope.

UX & Accessible Design making businesses more profitable & compliant | UX & Accessible Design lead & consultant | Introverted public speaker | Educator & constant learner in accessible UX & UI practices |
If you had to choose between creativity and accessibility, what would you choose? Easy! ... Because it's not a choice at all. I choose both. Yes my friends. When you embrace accessibility, you don’t have to sacrifice creativity. Whoever tells you that “Accessibility is the death of creativity”; “You can’t be creative and accessible”; “This site may not be accessible or usable, but it’s because it’s creative!” Is not actually that creative after all. They are just following the current tendency to identify “creativity” with “objects that move very fast on the screen without any apparent reason”. Think about it for a minute. Let’s take the Uffizi in Florence, for instance: one of the most famous museums in the world, full up to the rafters and down into the basements with the most splendid examples of artistic creativity. Every day, people queue up at the entrance, in a human snake spanning the length of the square all the way down to the river Arno. And yet: no artwork in that museum moves. None of those paintings and statues are animated. And yet: they are among the highest expressions of human ingenuity. And yet: no one ever got bored when looking at them. Yes, my friends. If creativity needed animation, we might as well set fire to most of the world’s museums. The same applies to websites, apps, and other digital products. Just like the Uffizi, they can be visible, beautiful, creative, accessible – and at the same time, extremely profitable. Want to know how? Watch my talk at UX Copenhagen 2023, in which I debunk these myths, and show you how to turn accessibility into an opportunity, instead of a limitation. https://lnkd.in/dF4HgHbQ #AccessibleDesign #creativity #accessibility #a11y #DontBeADick Image description: Piccia Neri on stage at UX Copenhagen 2023, teeny tiny. On the huge screen behind her, a painting of St George slaying the dragon by medieval artist Vitale da Bologna on the left of the screen; next to it, the Braille version of the painting: a beautiful gypsum relief, bringing joy to those who can see it as well as those who can’t. Yes, even paintings can be made accessible. Like I said: accessibility is an opportunity, not a limitation.
