When we live in a highly uncertain and dangerous world where emergencies can have cascading effects on our interdependent ecosystems, affect animal and human health, food systems, livelihoods and economies, how do we handle this uncertainity? Improving animal health globally, thereby ensuring a better future for all. (WOAH, founded as OIE)
À propos
WOAH is the global authority on animal health: we work to ensure the health of animals & their environments across the world, recognising that animal health impacts everyone’s health & that the safety of our future depends on it. Since 1924, we have focused on the complexities of animal health. Over time, we expanded our mission to include building partnerships with other international organisations on global initiatives, developing & disseminating knowledge, monitoring animal diseases & designing science-based protocols to manage outbreaks before they become a threat to public health, livelihoods & international trade. We have 182 Members worldwide that are committed to complying with our animal health & welfare standards. We strive for transparency in everything we do. We know that collaboration is the key to obtaining sustainable results, which is why we endeavour to ensure solidarity among all our Members to effectively control animal diseases, whether they affect livestock, aquatic animals or wildlife. We work to create a substantial network of people, a solid knowledge base and a pool of resources & information that can be easily accessed and shared. We work to empower all of our Members, communities and partners in our global quest for a more sustainable society, one that benefits animals, humans & the planet. We are building a better future through better animal health.

“Animal health is our health, it’s everyone’s health” is not just a slogan. History has shown that zoonotic diseases have been a long-time concern for human health, and can bring economic and social instability. The COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced this idea. Major health issues cannot be tackled by doctors or one sector alone, they require transdisciplinary collaboration. As we celebrate our 100th anniversary, we remain committed to animal health: more than ever, #OneHealth. In our anniversary special article, we trace the history of One Health: https://lnkd.in/eGZHsavU

What's happening in this image? Veterinary authorities in Thailand inspect cattle for signs of foot and mouth disease. This rarely fatal but highly contagious virus affects domestic animals, with severe impacts on productivity and trade. This is part of a series of images we've collected in celebration of a 100 years of our work. Take a look: https://lnkd.in/eqKyeWrc #WOAH100

Most farm animals are transported at least once during their lifetime. Their welfare during transport is a complex and multi-faceted topic. WOAH has developed standards to help countries ensure animal welfare during transport. In the Observatory's latest survey, we analysed if Veterinary Authorities were implementing WOAH standards on animal welfare during transport. The results are out. #AnimalWelfare
