We are honoured to have been named one of the 100 most sustainable companies in the world by TIME Magazine!   The rankings, which were released this week by the American news magazine and Statista, surveyed over 5,000 of the world’s largest and most influential companies. Each was evaluated on criteria that included external sustainability ratings, adherence to the UN Global Compact and alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative.   As a part of our Better Places plan, URW has pledged to reach carbon neutrality on scopes 1 & 2 by 2030, and across all scopes by 2050, including achieving -90% GHG emission reduction on scopes 1 & 2 by 2030, and -90% on scopes 1, 2 & 3 by 2050. Other targets include implementing renaturation projects on 100% of our assets, recycling 70% of our waste and reducing water consumption intensity by 20%, all three by 2030 (vs. 2019).   A huge thank you to TIME Magazine and Statista for launching this initiative and providing a clear benchmark for us and other companies to continue our environmental transition. We’re thrilled to announce a major new partnership with TOCA Football, the people behind TOCA Social, the world’s first immersive football and dining experience venue.   Two new TOCA Socials will open in 2025, occupying a 3,495-sqm space at Westfield London and a 2,400-sqm space in the recently expanded Westfield CNIT in La Défense, Paris, with more locations expected to be announced in the future.   Eat, drink and score! TOCA Social offers immersive football-based gaming with five-star food and drink. Guests choose from a variety of accessible and inclusive interactive games designed for all ages, abilities and football interests. TOCA Social currently operates at The O2 in London, attracting over 300,000 visitors last year.   This exciting partnership with TOCA allows us to bring this innovative entertainment concept to Continental Europe, continuing to provide the unique experiences that customers expect from Westfield destinations. 👏 Discover the new Westfield CNIT in Paris La Défense👏 We are thrilled to announce the opening of the extended and enhanced Westfield CNIT, a hyper connected mixed-use destination offering innovative retail and dining experiences, unveiled on May 16.   Designed by Cro&Co Architecture with the support of URW's Concept Studio, work began on the extension in 2020, capitalising on the construction of a train station under the existing CNIT building. The 45-shop extension spans over 9,000 m2 on Level -2, featuring exclusive new brands and gourmet dining concepts. It directly connects the destination to La Défense’s new RER E train station, underscoring our capacity to adapt to urban infrastructure and contribute to the regeneration of cities by densifying an existing asset. Fully in line with our Better Places plan, the extension has received BREEAM In-Use "Excellent" certification and uses natural thermal regulation with no need for additional heating or air conditioning. The project also created more than 300 jobs, making a positive contribution to the economy of the local area. Joining the Westfield family, Westfield CNIT now offers in total almost 37,400 m2 of retail space across 3 levels, also bringing together a Hilton hotel, the CNIT Forest convention centre (opened in October 2023), ample office spaces, and schools – demonstrating our expertise in mixed-use projects. Last week, #EurHope was back at our European destinations displaying the results of their participative campaign! Last Autumn, we’ve partnered with Make.org and JEF Europe to help amplify their #EurHope campaign, showcasing it at most of our shopping centres in Europe. The #EurHope campaign is a participative and apolitical initiative supported by the European Parliament. It aimed to engage young Europeans to put their priorities at the heart of public debate, ahead of this year’s European elections. It invited them to share their ideas about how we can work together to build a Europe that can respond to future challenges. Overall, the #EurHope campaign attracted more than 5,000 proposals – and earlier this month we displayed the results on screens across our European destinations for a full week! The proposals shaped the drafting of an Agenda of Hope, set to be shared with European institutions and politicians ahead of the upcoming European elections. Do you know where the biggest JD Sports flagship is in the world? A couple of weeks ago, JD (JD Sports Fashion), a leading global omnichannel retailer of sports fashion brands, opened an extended store at Westfield Stratford City in London. The location comprises over 4,200 square metres of shopping, making it the largest JD Sports in the world. The brand has had a retail presence at Westfield Stratford since 2011, and to answer rising customer demands JD expanded its presence, taking additional units to make its new UK flagship. The new flagship offers visitors an immersive shopping experience that unfolds over two floors, weaving digital and physical touchpoints to deliver a seamless customer journey. As part of the grand reopening, JD invited the YouTube crew Beta Squad to meet customers and capture the day for their social channels. Freestyle footballer Andrew Henderson and basketball freestyler Tarryn Algar also gave demonstrations and met fans. In the coming months, JD will host a series of activities, events and competitions to celebrate the new store. With our Better Places sustainability plan we are committed to putting people at the heart of everything we do, bolstering economic and social vitality for local communities, and driving a sustainable and impact-oriented company culture. As part of our Better Places plan, we’re committed to the sustainable transformation of the retail industry. To accelerate that transformation, we partner with our visitors, brands and retailers to deliver more sustainable experiences at our destinations. In 2023, our teams made strong progress against our sustainability targets! ✅ We rolled out our Sustainable Retail Index to 57% of our eligible revenue in Europe, assessing more than 2,500 fashion retailers and 800 brands. 82% of those assessed are already engaged in sustainability initiatives, with 52% identified as Active, Advanced or Leader. This year we are assessing Health & Beauty sector, with a target of reaching 70% of eligible revenue covered by the Sustainable Retail Index by the end of 2024. ✅ In 2023, 100% of our destinations in Europe hosted at least one sustainability event, like the Westfield Good Festival.
