NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV)— Despite a mild afternoon on Saturday (with highs near 50 degrees) we're in for a brush of winter weather Saturday night.

An area of low pressure will swing through Saturday evening, bringing a rain/snow mix across Middle Tennessee. Most of the Midstate will see rain to start, but light snow will eventually mix in.

The biggest thing stopping us from a decent snowfall are the mild surface (and ground) temperatures. Even if we're looking at snow showers in the early evening, the ground will be too warm for much to accumulate.

The best area to see minor accumulation will be on the Plateau. 1-2" of snow looks possible here. Accumulations will lessen the farther west you go. In Metro Nashville, we expect less than a half inch on grassy surfaces. A blanket of around a half inch is possible for those northwest of Nashville.

Keep in mind, if temperatures drop faster than expected, it could result in slightly higher snow totals. Look for isolated slick spots by Sunday morning with low temps in the upper 20s.
