*FOX 17 News will be in a Code Red Weather Alert on Wednesday for possible snow accumulation*

A winter weather advisory has been issued for some counties from 3 p.m. Wednesday to 3 a.m. Thursday. The areas under the advisory could see a slushy 1-2" of snow by Wednesday night.

Chief Meteorologist Katy Morgan says rain showers should begin by late Wednesday morning and early afternoon.

Colder air to the NW will begin to filter in, which will create a winter mix. That will then sweep through Middle Tennessee through the remainder of the afternoon. Rain/snow showers will continue (and may briefly transition to all snow) before tapering off in the early evening as temperatures fall below the freezing mark.

Warm surface and ground temperatures early in the afternoon will cut down on any decent snow accumulation (for most). I think the best accumulations should be in southern Kentucky and on the Cumberland Plateau. It's here where we could find around 1" of snow with locally higher amounts.

Those along the I-40 corridor could see up to a half inch "light dusting." Those closer to the Alabama border will mainly see rain.

Widespread impacts are not expected with this, more isolated impacts (and especially elevated surfaces).

Use caution Wednesday afternoon/evening and early Thursday morning. Watch for icy spots on the roads.
