*FOX 17 News is in a Code Red Weather Alert for freezing rain and the possibility of black ice overnight Thursday into Friday morning*

UPDATE (3:28 p.m. 2-11-21)

All advisories and warnings have been cancelled for the FOX 17 News viewing area.

Chief Meteorologist Katy Morgan says light freezing rain is pushing east Thursday evening and black ice will be possible overnight.

There’s a small chance of freezing rain Saturday along with a potential winter storm Monday.

UPDATE: ( 1 p.m. 2/11/21)

An ice storm warning is in effect for southern Kentucky through 6 p.m. Thursday. Parts of Middle Tennessee are no longer included in a winter storm or ice storm warning, but a winter weather advisory remains in effect through 6 p.m.

Rain/freezing rain will continue to move east and out of the area. Temperatures will be below freezing overnight so any moisture on the roads have the potential to flash freeze. Stay weather aware.

Freezing rain moved in overnight, sticking to some roads in Southern Kentucky and northwest Middle Tennessee, prompting dozens of school closures and creating slick spots on the roads. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has declared a State of Emergency to free up funding and boost coordination across agencies.

Folks from Montgomery to Sumner counties and beyond reported hearing thunder and seeing lightning as sleet came down. Code Red Meteorologist Greg Bobos calls it a "thundermix."

Many areas north of I-65 have experienced an accumulation of ice on untreated surfaces. Light additional accumulation is possible in these same areas until this system passes late today.

Expect slick roads and potential tree damage throughout the day. Power outages have been limited but cannot be ruled out. A glaze of accumulation is possible in Nashville as this weather maker continues.

Looking Ahead:

A blast of arctic air follows the messy middle of the week. Highs this weekend struggle to make it into the 30s.

More winter weather looks to be on the way for the weekend and early next week.

All modes of winter weather are possible at this point.
