Demolition is underway at the abandoned Greer Stadium in Nashville.

FOX 17 News gives a bird's eye view of the demolition through the SkyEye.

After becoming vacant, the former home of the Nashville Sounds was plagued by break-ins and vandalism.

Last year, Mayor David Briley allocated $1 million for the demolition to make way for a new park, with plans to include a campus of the Civil War-era Fort Negley historic site.

“Preserving and creating greenspace in our city has been a focus of my administration since day one,” said Mayor David Briley. “In fact, one of the first – if not the very first – things I did when I became Mayor was to designate this historic land a park and allocate the money needed to take down Greer. I’m proud to be a member of this Advisory Committee and look forward to seeing the final vision for this park.”

The Fort Negley Greer Stadium Advisory Committee will spearhead efforts to raise funds and secure resources to help make programming and improvements possible.

Country superstar Kix Brooks, of Brooks & Dunn, was named chair of the board.

Demolition is expected to be completed in October 2019.
