Winston Morelock pulled at the heartstrings of thousands last week as he got emotional talking to FOX17 about his home of 42 years.

His words had a profound impact on best friends Lora Drammis and Kayce Mcgehee.

“She showed me the video of you interviewing him the next day, and we were both just crying and she was like, ‘I'm gonna start a gofundme for him’ and I'm like, ‘Lora, I need to be starting a gofundme for you,’” Kayce said.

Because like Winston, Lora also lives on Holly Street. The tornado destroyed her home as well.

“I got the text that said take shelter and then like two seconds later one of my friends texted me and just said ‘hide’ so then I took it seriously,” Lora said.

She grabbed her dog and tried to get to the bathroom.

“It just knocked me back into the bedroom and I just got on top of her because I was holding her and managed to push my door shut with my feet and hold it because I could just feel the pressure and stuff going through,” Lora said.

While she doesn't have her belongings, she does have an amazing support system.

“Losing everything is so terrible, but then when you don't have that what's next option, I just couldn't even imagine if I didn't have my friends,” Lora said.

Now, these friends are doing what they can to build a similar support system for Winston and his wife Faye.

They joined them to rescue what's left of their belongings and even spearheaded a campaign that's raised more than $11,000 for the couple.

“Doing stuff like that together really brings people together,” Lora said.
