Mt. Juliet Police handed out gift cards and smiles this weekend.

Officers went door-to-door handing out $100 Lowe's gift cards to tornado victims.

The gift cards were thanks to anonymous donors. Just another way the Volunteer State has stepped up and lived up to its namesake in the wake of a deadly and destructive tornado outbreak on March 3.

"Every resident expressed much gratitude to the blessings provided by our entire community who continues to wrap their arms around those impacted," Mt. Juliet Police wrote on Facebook.

Officials said three people died in Mt. Juliet when a tornado ripped through in the dark.

Among those were the Eatons, a couple married more than 50 years who died side by side. Family members tell FOX 17 News they went to sleep and didn't wake up.

A 38-year-old mother who was was killed Lebanon at a CEVA warehouse on Athletes Way North while working security.
