NASHVILLE, Tenn.--The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) is again urging residents to remove their valuables, keys, and any guns from vehicles after another week resulted in dozens of guns stolen from vehicles.

So far this year alone, there have been 444 guns stolen from vehicles in the city. Over the last week, 29 guns were stolen from vehicles, accounting for 71% of all guns reported stolen this year in Davidson County. In total, there have been 622 guns stolen in the county.

MNPD launched a special initiative to combat the ongoing issue, reporting 612 arrests, 328 stolen vehicle recoveries, and 122 guns recovered. Police add many of the guns and vehicles stolen are then used in violent crimes such as carjackings and robberies.
