We also examine the recent wave of rumors about the iPhone 17 "Slim," an all-new iPhone model expected to sit above the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max in Apple's 2025 smartphone lineup with a higher price tag. The device will reportedly feature a 6.55-inch display, a significantly thinner design with an aluminum chassis, an "A19" chip, 8GB of RAM, a rear camera array relocated to the center, a 24-megapixel front camera, and a 48-megapixel telephoto camera. Simultaneously, Apple is expected to discontinue its "Plus" model to make way for the "Slim," although it may not actually be called this when it debuts in the fall of next year.

Meanwhile, Sonos just announced its "Ace" over-ear headphones with active noise cancelation, soundbar integration, a more lightweight design, and longer battery life, so we look at how they compare to the AirPods Max. Why already talk about the iPhone 17 when even the iPhone 16 isn’t launched? We already know it wil have the same form factor as the iPhone 15, 14, 13, 12. Some incremental hardware updates here and there and probably $ 100,- more expensive than the one it will be “replacing”. 120 hz refresh rates are standard these days at even entry level phones. Apple will probably keep that for the “pro” versions in the foreseeable future.

The disposition of the cameras in all this mockups doesn’t align well with the new iPhone 16 adopting a vertical camera layout in order to be able to record 3D Video, or Spatial Video, or however that format is commercially named.

iPhone Slim makes literally no sense, at least that fake "iPhone Ultra" which never happened was believable.
According to that rumor, it is slimmer (worse battery life + easier to bend) and uses worse materials while being the most expensive iPhone + they rearrange camera system a year after redesigning base models to support Spatial.

Agreed. Seeing what Apple was able to achieve with the M4 iPad Pro will undoubtedly translate to other devices. There is typically a segment of the population that wants, and can afford, to buy a more premium version of just about every product, so why not offer versions that fit this segment in iPhones, iPads (M4 iPP nano), MacBooks, AirPods, Watch (Ultra was exactly this), etc.

Lol you are comparing an imaginary phone to a "13 inch tablet", nobody is going to put that iPad pro in their back pocket so there is usually no concern about bending a 'tablet' in the first place. Even if there were, the new iPad Pro bends as easily as it did vertically before, and it's only 0.4mm thinner than Samsung's 2023 tablet, maybe it's incredible in terms of thinness to the old iPad, certainly nothing special compared to competition in this category.
Aluminum is considered worse/cheaper material compared to Titanium, no matter how you interpret it, and ofc you are still comparing a tablet to a phone while they have completely different use case scenarios. A thinner device is more susceptible to bending, especially ones that are small and can be put in a pocket, unlike an iPad.

So this new premium “iPhone 17 Slim” will be thinner, have the cameras centered at the top so people know you don’t have a 13/14/15/16 Pro and probably start at a price of $1,299 (256GB). Meanwhile the iPhone 17 Pro becomes the iPhone 8. Apple could’ve just “redesigned” the 17 Pro and bump up the price by $100, but that’s not how Tim thinks.
