I just bought a new/sealed iPhone 13 mini. Haven’t opened it yet. There’s no warranty on it. How much battery degradation if any should I expect from a phone that was in the box since 2021?

Wondering if it’s worth keeping this phone without the warranty. My wife wants a “smaller” phone, so it’s this 13 mini or a new SE 2022.

Don’t worry about it.
Maybe 3-4 years from now you can take a peak at the battery health stat.
Anyway, a battery replacement isn’t something to dread. It’s no big deal — at all.

Would you consider a new sealed no warranty 13 mini is worth it over a new 2022 SE? My wife is upgrading from a 6s. It’s been a while.

Not an iPhone, I bought the 2017 iPad Pro 10.5" in 2019 and Coconut said the battery had been manufactured in 2017, so it was sitting in the box for a little less than two years. FWIW, out of the box Coconut showed 95% battery health.

If it were me, the focus would be on the phone your wife prefers to have.

In a similar situation, I picked up an open box/NIB/unactivated iPhone 11 Pro Max (manufactured March 2020) and Battery Health was 100% per the phone and Coconut Battery. There's still no 5G at my house yet, and the 11PM was the closest in design to my beloved 7-year old 6s-Plus. Personally, I also preferred the rounded edges on such a large phone. I also wasn't going to worry about the warranty. I had also run across a barely used 12PM (also with 100% battery health), and while it would have been a slightly better phone from a future-proofing perspective, I found the combination of its slab sides and weight a pain to hold after about 15 minutes (even though my favorite iPhone design was the slab-sided 5 series).

Where did you find a sealed new 13 mini?

Walmarts in Canada were blowing these out this week, got a 512GB for $499 plus tax. I guess that's roughly $370 USD? Anyways the one I got had 100% battery health, nothing wrong it at all, full warranty too.
