Lynn Good has been at the helm of Duke Energy as CEO for just over a decade, and is leading the North Carolina–based electric power and gas distributor as it aims to meet an aggressive clean energy goal. The company wants to reduce carbon emissions by at least 50% by 2030, and it’s on track to do so—Duke has already reduced its emissions by 44% since 2005. Renewable sources account for 8% of its power generation (up from 1% in 2006), and coal drives 17% of its power generation (down from 60% from 2005). At this pace, Duke’s use of coal will be obsolete by 2035. In 2022, Duke’s revenue increased almost 17%. Prior to assuming her role as chief executive, Good served as Duke’s chief financial officer, and she currently sits on the board of Boeing.
