Many doubted Elon Musk would step down as head of X, formerly Twitter, when his followers voted for him to do so in December 2022, but the billionaire made good on his pledge, naming Linda Yaccarino CEO in May. The Long Island, N.Y., native’s résumé aligned with X’s needs at that moment. An ad powerhouse, formerly of NBC and Turner Broadcasting System, Yaccarino has the connections necessary to mend X’s relationships with brands, which soured in the Musk era, reportedly costing the platform billions in revenue. But a still unanswered question is whether Yaccarino can lead X as she sees fit or if Musk still pulls the strings.
