When Entain, the gaming and sports-betting company behind the Ladbrokes and Coral brands, appointed Nygaard-Andersen as its chief in January 2021, she became the first woman to lead a gambling company in the U.K., as well as just one of six women to run a FTSE 100 company at the time. (Entain also owns 50% of the U.S. betting platform BetMGM.) An industry veteran, the Danish national joined the Entain board as an independent nonexecutive director in 2019, with prior experience chairing Danish e-sports team owner Astralis and in senior executive roles at digital gaming company Modern Times Group. Since taking the helm, Nygaard-Andersen has pulled Entain out of unregulated markets and increased its U.S. presence with the $266 million acquisition of Angstrom Sports. She has also paved the way for more women to follow in her footsteps; the company has partnered with the McLaren racing team on a Returnship program to support women who have taken a career break as they reenter the world of STEM.
