Jessica Tan has co-led Ping An Insurance, the 33rd-largest company in the world and the ninth-biggest in China, since 2018. In September, the McKinsey alum announced a new focus for the financial services and insurance company: the health care system, specifically care for the elderly. China’s graying population provides an opportunity for Ping An to cross-sell medical and retirement-planning services to its insurance customers. Ping An, which brought in $182 billion in revenue in 2022, will rely on a newly culled team of insurance agents to carry out its overall vision; it has shrunk its agency force to 360,000 from over 1 million in 2020. Tan told the SCMP that Ping An’s insurance business will benefit from “fewer but higher-quality agents.” According to a late September announcement, Tan will track Ping An's progress from a different perspective come Dec. 31, 2023. At that point, she'll step down as co-CEO and serve Ping An only as a director.
