Jennifer Rumsey, CEO of Cummins Inc., considers intensifying industry-wide pressures to reduce carbon emissions and reach net zero an opportunity for growth, not an obstacle. The Columbus native joined the $28-billion-in-revenue engine manufacturer nearly 24 years ago, rising through the ranks as chief technology officer, chief operating officer, and now the first woman chief executive in the company's 104-year history. Rumsey, CEO since August 2022, is leading Cummins through a strategy called Destination Zero, which aims to reduce the greenhouse gas and air quality impacts of its products to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Under her leadership, Cummins’s stock has increased almost 26% from July 2022 to July 2023; revenue increased nearly 17% in the same period.
