From answering phones after high school to claiming the top job, Johnson has had a noteworthy career at Fidelity Investments. Following in the footsteps of her grandfather, the founder of the Boston-based financial services giant, Johnson has made a name for herself since she became CEO in 2014. The mutual fund behemoth had full-year revenue of more than $25 billion in 2022, compared to $14.9 billion when Johnson took over. In recent years, Johnson has pushed forward-thinking ideas at the firm, including by launching a commission-free crypto trading product for customers in 2022. In June 2023, the company refiled an application with the Securities and Exchange Commission to create a spot Bitcoin ETF, which, if approved, would provide its customers an additional way to invest in the cryptocurrency. Johnson has also pushed the firm toward targeting younger investors, and her efforts are already paying off. In the second quarter of 2023, 43% of Fidelity’s retail account growth came from customers between 18 and 35 years old.
