Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For 2023
Accenture celebrates its 15th year on the Best Companies list thanks in part to its implementation of new mental health resources and continuation of its apprenticeship program. The professional services company emphasizes internal transparency with its Raise a Concern site, where workers can easily find support for issues, track how the investigation process works, and see how similar concerns were handled. It’s paid off, as nine out of 10 employees say that management is “honest and ethical” in its practices. In an effort to expand the talent pool, Accenture met its goal to fill more than 20% of fiscal hires this past year from the ranks of its apprenticeship program, a majority of whom don’t hold four-year degrees. In response to issues of social injustice and worker burnout, Accenture began its Building Bridges conversations, where employees were encouraged to talk about race, gender, and identity. The massive tech firm also announced in late March that it was laying off 19,000 workers globally, about 3% of its workforce.

Through the company’s apprentice program, Accenture hires workers who might not otherwise have opportunities in the tech field by partnering with community colleges, nonprofits, and tech academies. Since the program launched in 2016, 80% of participants have not held a traditional four-year bachelor’s degree. This year, Accenture announced a plan to fill at least 20% of 2022 entry-level hires from the program.

At Accenture, the pandemic prompted an expansion in benefits for staff who were juggling care for children and parents—and the creation of a team of caseworkers to help employees find and manage care options. That came alongside a further push into pro bono and career development work. The company used its consulting services to help school districts from Detroit to Baltimore develop a plan for reopening for free. Meanwhile, Accenture funded paid virtual internships for students at six nonprofits in six cities, and created over 300 apprenticeships in 30+ cities online for historically underrepresented workers entering corporate America.
