Celebrating Black Stories: “Black Women are Magic” by Jordan Kines
a gallery curated by Flickr
February is Black History Month and each week we’re highlighting the work of some of the amazing Black photographers on Flickr. This week, we invite you to explore an album curated by the talented photographer, Jordan Kines, and read the inspiring story behind it. "I curated this album to celebrate black woman. Black women have always served on the front-line in the fight for equality. Their power, resilience, and courage in the Civil Rights and Women’s Movements can not be overstated. My mother, who is unfortunately no longer with me today, is a shining example resilience and strength. I decided to lead this album with a portrait of her. My mother was my beacon and without her love, support and sacrifices, I would not be the photographer, let alone person I am today. Following her, are all portraits of black woman who I’ve worked with who are strong, successful, and respected in their line of work. I am consistently inspired by the black woman around me who demonstrate perseverance and strength. This modest collection of portraits aims to celebrate that. “The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the Black woman. The most neglected person in America is the Black woman.” —Malcolm X" -Jordan Kines
