Valley of the Glaciers

Traveling along the Ring Road in Iceland, the sun peaking out onto the Svínafellsjökull glacier was a welcome sight after a sunless morning filled with snowstorms and ice. Upon arrival I excitedly scurried up a quite dangerous snow embankment on the side of the mountain ever mindful that a slip would result in a tumble of several hundred feet that would not end well. After rounding a corner, I was surprised to be greeted with this breathtaking vantage point. I nervously snapped away amidst the loud deep crackling of the glacier beneath and the occasional sound of sliding rocks above me. The sun only lasted about 30 minutes that late morning, but by then the scale and the expansiveness of the glacier below had already etched a wonderful everlasting image in my mind. Standing there awestruck I could honestly say that this was one of the most beautiful places in the world!
