Seattle — At 12:24 a.m., the Seattle Fire Department’s Fire Alarm Center received 911 calls reporting a fire in a two-story home in the 5000 block of 26th Ave. SW. in the Delridge neighborhood. The first firefighters on scene reported flames coming through a front window from a second-floor bedroom. Neighbors also informed crews that the resident of the home may still be inside.
Firefighters worked quickly to put water on the fire and found the resident near the first-floor entrance. They carried him out to safety and transitioned care to paramedics. The patient is an approx. 90-year-old male who was in critical condition. Paramedics transported him to a hospital for further medical care.
Crews knocked down the fire by 12:42 a.m., then fully extinguished it eight minutes later. They searched the home to confirm no other occupants were in the home. A few units will remain on scene through the morning for fire watch.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
UPDATED June 18: Investigators ruled the fire was accidental. Likely caused by overheated electrical wiring that ignited nearby combustible material.
