It turns out I'm not that bad at these small white table booths. 😎 🤘 Many people visited the tiny booth and asked questions about the product. I even kind of enjoyed telling the whole story of why it was created and what it was for. I was there, telling the story repeatedly for more than 7-8 hours on my feet, making the same jokes, improving the catchphrases, and organically invoking interest. It's very hard for a maker to market their product, but that is actually the only way. You're easily heartbroken if it's not liked or if any idea is negated. Luckily, I didn't encounter that. Turns out they really liked the product, the design, and the idea. But the work is just starting now: connecting the final cables and boxing the product for people to use. Somehow, I feel confident. I've made new cool connections and even learned how to use the LinkedIn QR code feature. 🤣 I have to thank Kaarle and Margarita from Platform6 Startup House for pushing me to attend this. I have to thank Tampereen kaupunki - City of Tampere and the International Tampere for the inclusive environment they created. Many attendees and visitors agreed that, after trying to make it in many cities (let's not name names 😄), Tampere was the only city where they felt included and proud to contribute to. Finally, I have to thank Business Finland for their hard work in differentiating and selecting the useful and promising projects from the pile of applications they receive every day. The ongoing Nordic AI Summit let us communicate Brua's call to action, and the audience had a chance to experience our product. We went on a journey through time. We covered the fuller history of AI from myths and philosophy to modernity. We looked at the role of artificial minds in our midst through the lenses of our broader cultural history, to uncover what it might take to sculpt a socially responsible role for AI. That is Brua's mission. You may call me mad, but there are two ways to create culture. The hard way is to work on solving "pain points" that are symptoms of a deeper issue, invariably creating a path to a future crisis. The even harder way is to work on the deeper issue head on. Brua is about the latter in the context of AI. I'll do a longer session on this to kick off an AI Salon (online) on June 20, 1-2pm CET. All welcome. Thanks Nordic AI Summit, 🔵Bastian W. Flow Computing: Finnish startup wants to make processors up to 100 times faster. Timo Valtonen, co-founder and CEO of the Finnish startup Flow Computing, is convinced that the CPU is the weakest link in computing. His company has therefore dedicated itself to making processors significantly faster - specifically, he believes that the performance of a CPU can be increased by a factor of around 100. The technology behind this claim is still in a very early stage of development. Additional chip to support the CPU In addition to a classic CPU, Flow Computing's technology uses a so-called PPU, which is the startup's name for a "parallel processing unit" that works together with the actual processor. This PPU ensures that the CPU can perform its tasks as smoothly as possible. For example, the PPU would pull information from the main memory in advance and make it available for the CPU while the CPU is still busy with another task. This approach is intended to increase the efficiency and speed of computing operations. The technology is already being used in other areas of computing. However, a completely new code is currently required for the CPU. Flow Computing technology is said to be able to double the performance of the CPU simply by integrating the PPU into the system. Changes to the code are optional, and Flow Computing is also said to be backwards compatible with any architecture and any code. By making simple code adjustments, performance can be increased tenfold. Completely new code is only required if 100 times the performance is needed. Flow Computing plans to offer an AI tool that helps create the new code. So far it is only a concept As an additional chip, the PPU should take up hardly any space or additional energy. According to Flow Computing, it is a three-nanometer chip that requires 22 square millimeters of space and consumes around 43 watts of energy. PPUs could therefore be particularly worthwhile for mobile devices such as smartphones or smartwatches, which could offer significantly more performance. But Flow Computing also sees an application for the technology in classic computers and servers. Games, video transcoding programs and network software, among others, could benefit from it. So far, however, this is still pure theory, as the PPU only exists as a concept. The company currently holds a number of corresponding patents, but is still a long way from an actual prototype, not to mention a finished product. However, it would also be possible to sell the idea to established manufacturers such as Nvidia, Intel or AMD instead of developing it yourself. https://lnkd.in/dDV7g6dQ

Ilya Sutskever, former Chief Scientist at OpenAI, has launched his new company, Safe Super Intelligence (SSI). “Building safe superintelligence (SSI) is our sole focus. Our team, investors, and business model are all aligned to achieve SSI. We plan to advance capabilities as fast as possible while ensuring our safety always remains ahead. This way, we can scale in peace. Our singular focus means no distraction by management overhead or product cycles.” The plan seems to be to ditch the need for incremental products, market traction, profit, etc., and just focus on the end goal. That’s a big deal. If anyone can achieve superintelligence, it’s probably Ilya. There’s a growing feeling within a significant part of the AI community that superintelligence is much closer than we previously thought. If I were to guess, I’d personally say we have a decent chance of achieving something significant in the next five years. The amount of money and brainpower being poured into this quest is way above anything we’ve previously seen. That virtually guarantees big breakthroughs. And even if we don’t achieve general superintelligence (i.e., an AI exceeding human abilities in most things), we’re sure to get very advanced narrow intelligence (i.e., AI that exceeds human abilities in certain very specific domains). What this means for business is a big question. Many domains may well look radically different with the arrival of superintelligence. I’ve always respected the work of Ray Dalio. One of his principles is radical open-mindedness: “LIFE PRINCIPLE: Embrace Reality and Deal with It. Be radically open-minded and radically transparent.” In this new world, open-mindedness is all the more important. Our business futures won’t be like our business pasts, and that’s something we need to deal with, not react against. If I were to recommend anything, it would be: 1. Seek people who know what they are doing with AI, whom you can trust, and give them some space to work their magic. 2. Have intelligent conversations about budget and value—engage at an intellectual level in the debate, not at an “I demand” level. 3. Stay open-minded about the future, the path there, and the impact on your business. Nobody knows the answers, and those who claim to are probably charlatans. My observation is that those adopting an open-minded approach and embracing uncertainty are discovering exciting possibilities. In this respect, attitude is an important attribute of success.

Hockey stick curves are in real life quite abnormal. However today when we reported our Q1-results, if you look our LTM performance on EBITA% you can see it. We have improved LTM-margin from low point of 8.1% to current 10.5% and that improvement has taken place in muted volume environment and in 12 months. That’s what I call operational efficiency improvement. We have been able to make our operations mean and lean but not at the cost of our clients. NPS is at all time high of 86. Quarter has demonstrated solid progress but also it is fair to say that even after this improvement we are still trailing from our target of 12% EBITA-margin. We progressing towards that with great speed, but there still remains work to be done. I am certain that whole Terveystalo team continues to push towards it. Had a great AI breakfast with the Finnish AI in film, video, and VFX community! A human-made summarization of our discussion: AI in Video Production: AI is not yet a silver bullet in GenAI video production. A lot of work and study hours are needed to build a general vision and understand what different tools can do and their maturity level. A major bottleneck is still the lack of controllability in the output, requiring time, money, and extensive post-production to achieve a polished-looking result. Tools: Open-source tools like Automatic1111 and ComfyUI offer better controllability than commercial products, though they are not very user-friendly. Video-to-Video generation: Using a source video and then adding styles and changes produces the best results so far (compared to image or text-to-video production). Speech-to-Speech generation: To control emotion in voice output, record the emotion with a real human and use AI to modify the voice, e.g., making it sound like a high-pitched cartoon character. Lipsync: We are still waiting for AI to produce more expressive and natural-looking lipsync that matches human facial expressions, not just a static doll face like they are today. 3D GenAI: This area is still evolving. It works for low-resolution static usage but remains a work in progress for animation and re-lighting. 6 MONTHS Friday reflection! 📚 📈 So interesting being part of startup Enviro Tech Ab Oy 🌱 journey, and looking back for some reflections the story holds so many interesting and challenging elements. For the ones of you who have been in similar situations, you know the feeling - you can get hyped and terrified about something during the same day, or even during same hour! Strategy, planning, analyzing, setting targets, meeting prospects, making offers, doing business, networkning... I guess the list of things never ends. And it some times feel like driving on a bumpy road. Suddenly the car goes into one ditch, then the opposite side ditch, etc, but it keeps going forward. During those ditch drops you learn a lot: ideas comes and goes, concepts are tested and products are developed, or scrapped. And what success it has been. 6 months and we have come this far, I can't believe it, and this is just the beginning! I am so grateful for the team, the dynamic, down to earth, honest and supporting each other. 😍 "It is the people that make the business". 🏡 Equally so grateful for the customer discussions so far, and the future ones. Also there it's all about the people. As I approach my one-year milestone at Veo Technologies, I thought it would be a good time to share some reflections. On a daily basis I am reminded about our shared mission to democratize sports by making technology accessible to all and not just the selected few. This is deeply rooted in the culture at Veo, where everyone wants to contribute to levelling the playing field to empower players, coaches, and teams to reach new heights. I think this is quite unique, and it’s a big part of what makes working at Veo exciting. With a product being used all around the world, we are lucky to have a very diverse customer base. Yet, our customers have one specific thing in common: they want to capture the unique moments that sports give them. This entails an expectation for us to consistently understand and anticipate the needs of our customers. Every day, we are working to become better, with the ambition of providing exceptional service and support. So while our customer keeps raising the bar within sports, we need to raise the bar for how we deliver a good customer experience.
